Links eNewsletter - Term 1 Week 7 Dear valued member of the PLC community, A Message From the Deputy PrincipalEvery week in this newsletter, we are reminded of the rich, diverse, and vibrant curricular and co-curricular offerings at PLC. One of the things that creates this vibrancy is the currency and real-world relevance of the opportunities we provide. As we continue to develop our new Strategic Plan, our goal is to equip our girls with the necessary skills to be personally successful in an ever-evolving world. To do this, as well as ensuring our teaching and learning strategy is constantly evolving, we need to ensure that our curriculum is rich, contemporary, and relevant. With that in mind, I am leading a working party that will spend much of this year reviewing the PLC timetable with a view to making recommendations about our current curriculum offerings and their structure within the timetable. We will be surveying staff and student opinions at the beginning of next term and will also be hoping to hear the thoughts of parents. The purpose is to gather as much data as possible from our stakeholders to inform our suggestions about how we ensure that the timetable serves the teaching and learning needs of the School. If you have any suggestions or observations, we would be delighted to hear them. Please send your thoughts to timetable@plc.wa.edu.au. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible tomorrow at the PLC Parents Welcome Sundowner and will, of course, be happy to talk to you about any thoughts you have in person. Make A Difference WeekLast week was Make A Difference Week (MAD Week) where our Senior School students were encouraged to think about how they can make a difference in our world. Eloise Middlemas (Service Captain) and a team of our student leaders arranged a number of activities each day at the school. These included implementing a waste recycling area at the International Women’s Day Breakfast, beeswax wrap making, a waste audit, an activity focusing on strong women, and the incredibly popular ethical fashion swap. The week finished with our Gorna Liyarn Scholarship students, led by the Reconciliation Captains, recognising National Close The Gap Day and working with our Senior School students to create two murals featuring the six Noongar seasons for our permaculture garden. Thank you to all the students and staff who led and were involved in the activities. IGSSA Swimming CarnivalThis year, PLC hosted the IGSSA Swimming Carnival held last Friday night at the HBF Stadium. Our swimmers had been training very hard for this event and their enthusiasm on the night was palpable. Their efforts and support of each other was fantastic and I know that it has provided motivation for our swimmers to seek to perform even better at next year’s event. A big thank you to all the swimming staff for their tireless efforts in preparing our girls. I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Anna Turseck-James (Head of Health and Physical Education/Head of Sport) for her stellar organisation of the event, as well as all our staff and student helpers on the night. Well done PLC! Road Safety Around Our SchoolOur students have been receiving reminders about making sure that they cross roads carefully and appropriately when arriving and leaving School. Thank you to our parents for your help in keeping our students safe by driving carefully and obeying speed limits around the School. - Miss Rebecca Watts, Head of Senior School Boarder of the Week:
Rooms of the Week:
What Happened This Week in the Boarding HouseFrom the Boarding House PrefectsA character strength that is highly valued in the Boarding House is kindness. We demonstrate this in the way in which we treat each other, how we look after ourselves and look after the environment. As a community, we also celebrate successes that are formally recognised during notices on Wednesday nights. During this time, we come together to share any important information and each week the 'Boarder of the Week' and 'Room of the Week' recipients are announced with each student receiving a certificate and a tin of Milo. The Year 12 students then share 'snaps' which are small thank you messages to boarders from boarders. The Year 12 students also nominate a student who has stood out to them for the 'Shout-out of the Week'. This week, the Boarding House Prefects have interviewed last week’s Boarder of the Week, Blaise McCabe, to find out about her life and experiences in boarding:
- Boarding House Prefects Years 11 & 12 Share the Dignity - Final Day Friday 19 MarchThe National Dignity Drive provides necessities for women experiencing period poverty through homelessness, fleeing domestic violence and those living in crisis.
