Have Your Say: Draft Social Infrastructure StrategyWe want to capitalise on City of Parramatta’s growth to ensure our CBD and neighbourhoods have the necessary social infrastructure to help people’s standard of living maintain and improve, and their sense of belonging and community strengthen. Planning continues for future aquatic centreCouncil continues to make progress on delivering a new aquatic leisure centre in the Parramatta CBD. The preferred location for the new centre has been confirmed with Parramatta Park Trust, as the site adjacent to Park Parade, near the corner of Pitt Street on the former golf course site. The study produced options for a new aquatic leisure centre that should, at minimum, include an indoor aquatic hall with eight lane 25m pool, learn to swim and water play facilities in addition to a ten lane outdoor 50m pool. The facility would also feature multipurpose rooms and public amenities, an entry area with café, spectator seating and a barbeque area. Options exist for a special warm water program pool, wellness and fitness facilities and a multipurpose indoor sports hall. Council has committed $30 million to the project in addition to the State Government’s $30 million funding pledge. Further community consultation is scheduled to occur in the coming months on concept design options for the new aquatic facility. A concerted effort is being made to fast-track planning for the new centre and ensure that the resulting facility includes the features needed to service what is forecast to become one of the largest local catchments in Australia. The target date for the completion of the new aquatic leisure centre is March 2020 pending the successful implementation of strategies aimed at fast-tracking the project, and the impact of a number of factors outside of Council’s control, such as archaeological investigations and the timely provision of utilities and services to the chosen pool site. A final report that includes a detailed financial business case, funding availability and recommendation of a preferred scheme will be presented to Council in December this year, together with confirmation of the scheduled completion timeline.
