Throwback ThursdayJohn Colvin EvansLance Corporal John Evans was a clerk from The Boulevarde, Strathfield who enlisted with the 19th Battalion in 1915. He fell ill with typhoid and was evacuated from Gallipoli, later serving on the Western Front. He was killed at Passchendaele, near Zonnebeke, on 9 October 1917, aged 24. Reverend Littlemore of Trinity Church had the sad duty of informing his family of his death. Today his war medals and death plaque are preserved in the collection of the Australian War Memorial and are currently on display in the Strathfield Answers the Call 1914-1918 exhibition at Strathfield Library & Innovation Hub.
