High Tech Surf Life Saving Operations Centre OpensSurf Life Saving NSW will have better emergency communications and coordination capability, after the NSW Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott officially opened the new State Operations Centre in Sydney earlier this month. Patrol Season Kicks Off for 2020/21Thousands of volunteer surf lifesavers across NSW returned to the beach over the weekend for the first patrol of the season. Lifesavers were joined by the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott at Queenscliff Surf Life Saving Club on Sydney’s Northern Beaches to raise the first iconic red and yellow flags of the new patrol season. Surf Lifesavers COVID-Safe on Patrol this SeasonWith summer fast approaching and what is anticipated to be one of the busiest patrol seasons on record, Surf Life Saving NSW has distributed personal protective equipment (PPE) to surf clubs and branches to ensure volunteer surf lifesavers are protected while on duty.
Worlds Largest Virtual CPR ClassEarlier this month Surf Life Saving NSW joined forces with Greg Page, the original Yellow Wiggle, and Nextdoor for a free virtual CPR and AED class. Over 14,000 people tuned in for the live streamed event, breaking the world record for the largest CPR class. Historic Changes to the SLSNSW ConstitutionPresident of Surf Life Saving NSW, George Shales OAM, has announced historic changes to the SLSNSW Constitution, unanimously endorsed by the State Council at a Special General Meeting held on Saturday 12 September 2020. New Woolgoolga Surf Club Opens for the Patrol SeasonWoolgoolga Surf Life Saving Club on the North Coast has plenty to celebrate with the official opening of a new Surf Life Saving club to service the members and the community. The $4M facility was funded from a mix of grants from Federal, State and Local Governments. Sydney 2000: Jessi Miley-Dyer, 2000 Junior Lifesaver of the YearIn the year 2000 Bronte Surf Life Saving Club's Jessi Miley-Dyer was the NSW Junior Lifesaver of the Year and was invited to bring the Olympic torch onto Bondi Beach. She still remembers the sounds and the masses of people from headland to headland. Jessi was a talented swimmer, surfer and surf sports athlete winning a number of Ironwoman, Board and Surf Races at the NSW and Australian Championships for over a decade. After finishing her HSC she qualified for surfing's World 'Dream' Tour where, in her rookie year, defeated 7 x World Champion Layne Beachley to win the Maui Pro. At 25 Jessi retired from competitive surfing and completed a Masters degree in Media. She's now based in LA where she's the Vice President for the Tour and Competition at the World Surf League. Life Saving Partnership with Harvey NormanSurf Life Saving NSW is pleased to announce a new retail partnership with Harvey Norman, which will see vital first aid equipment used by surf lifesavers made readily available to the public. Dan Gaffney, Chief Operating Officer of Surf Life Saving Services said the partnership represented an exciting alignment that would help save Australian lives. Kitchen Catch Up - Understanding Mental Health and WellbeingLooking after the mental health of ourselves, friends and family is an important part of staying well. Join us for a 60-minute Kitchen Catch Up with two of our accredited Mental Health First Aid Trainers to learn more about Mental Health and how to look after yourself and others.
