      Open Education Updates

New books added to the B.C. Open Textbook Collection

      • New edition: Chemistry: Atoms First - 2e (OpenStax)
      • New edition: Chemistry - 2e (OpenStax)
      • Elementary Algebra (OpenStax)
      • Introduction to Web Accessibility (published by Ryerson)

      Support resources updates

      • See new Appendix B: Pressbooks Catalogues in the Pressbooks Guide. Several post-secondary institutions in Canada and the U.S. have established their own instances of Pressbooks and, many, host a catalogue of open textbooks and other OER within that instance. Several of these are listed here alphabetically by province or state.

      Open Ed updates

      • Have added a definition for "open textbook" to the Adoption page on the OpenEd site.

We are looking for Subject Matter Experts (SME) from B.C. or other parts of Canada to review textbooks being considered for the B.C. Open Textbook Collection. See the list of Books open for review by Canadian faculty. Contact bookreviews@bccampus.ca if you are interested in providing an SME review.

      Help us identify the gaps

Contact opentext@bccampus.ca if you would like to see open textbooks made available for specific subject areas in the B.C. Open Textbook Collection. In particular, we'd like to hear of topics in these areas: business, early childhood education (ECE), health, STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), and trades.

For the most current open education information, take a look at these continuously updated directories:

      • Information Directory - research, articles, blogs, books related to open education in Canada, the U.S., Global North, and Global South regions
      • Post-Secondary Directory - An inventory of all things open for each post-secondary institution in B.C., and every province and territory in Canada
