Brendan Moore - Parks Team Leader I originally applied for the role of Parks Team Leader at Strathfield Council because I saw it as a great opportunity to work in some of the Inner West’s busiest parks. The Parks team is constantly on the move maintaining and updating the LGA’s green spaces. I’ve particularly enjoyed working on the playground upgrades which began earlier this year. It was fantastic to be able to contribute to something the community can enjoy for many years to come.
Christmas is a great time to celebrate with family and friends, and usually involves a big cook-up in the kitchen or on the BBQ. Be fire safe this holiday season by checking electrical items are up-to-date and making sure your fire alarm has a new battery.
Avoiding Legionnaires disease
Council’s Environmental Health Officers will be rolling out a cooling tower inspection program in January 2018. Cooling towers can be a source of Legionnaires Disease if the water and system are not regularly maintained and cleaned. For more information on safe cooling towers, visit the website.
Parks and Playgrounds Update
Council’s ambitious project of upgrading 25 parks and playgrounds, passed the halfway mark this week. The new plaques for the parks and playgrounds were displayed with staff and councillors celebrating the achievement. Mayor Gulian Vaccari thanked the current and past Councils for their commitment to the project and staff for carrying out the work which has delivered exciting parks and playgrounds which are recognised throughout Sydney.

Whelan’s Strathfield HotelThis colourful Christmas advertisement for Whelan’s Strathfield Hotel holds a warning as relevant today as it was in 1968 – get your Christmas beer early to avoid disappointment. The hotel was originally built as the Family Hotel and was owned by Angelo Arditto, a prominent resident of Strathfield, who Arditto’s Lane was named after.
