Arts Leaders Call for Salary Transparency

Last week, Arts Leaders from around the country started to compile a detailed list of the salaries and benefits of their current arts organizations. This anonymous, view-only google doc shares not only salary, but starting salaries, benefits, the gender of the staff person, and much more. Read more on this activism here.

Showbox Nominated for Designation as an Historic Landmark

Friends of the Showbox is a collective of Showbox employees and community arts leaders (including our very own MFA '19 Shannon Welles) who use artful, political, and community testimony to save the beloved music venue from demolition.
Their most recent efforts were rewarded with a unanimous vote by the Landmarks Preservation Board to nominate the Showbox as an historic landmark. Congratulations!

Indigenous People Festival

The Indigenous People Festival is a free event that provides an opportunity for Native people to celebrate their traditions and for visitors to learn more about indigenous cultures through song, dance, performances, art, food, and the sharing of indigenous knowledge. Join the celebration on June 8th at the Seattle Center, from 11 AM -  5 PM.

Queer Art Walk

A partnership between PrideFest and the Capitol Hill Art Walk, June's art walk features queer artists at various venues around Capitol Hill. An easy, gentle June stroll through some of the best art the queer community has to offer. Queer Art Walk happens this Thursday, June 13th, 5 PM - 9 PM.

There Goes the Gayborhood! Panel Discussion

In the face of rapid redevelopment, how do we save the places that anchor Seattle’s LGBTQ communities but may lack the architectural significance typically required for landmarking? On June 8th from 10:30 AM - 12 PM at the Seattle Central Library, a panel of preservationists, small business owners, and activists will discuss important community places and the challenges we face in making preservation more inclusive. This event is free; advance registration is appreciated.

Art on the Fly

This Saturday, June 8th from 12 PM - 3 PM, enjoy a day at Denny Park with this free, outdoor, all-ages celebration of the arts, dance, and food trucks in the middle of Seattle. Check out live performances, interactive events, and FREE dance classes, as well as the South Lake Union Saturday Market. All festivities information can be found here.

Next Weekend - Call for Volunteers: MFA Summary Project Presentations

Saturday, June 15, 2019 | 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM | Pigott Building (PIGT) 102, 103, & 105

We need volunteers to help throughout the day at this big event! This is a great opportunity for first-year MFA students, BA students, and alumni to preview the amazing capstone work by the Class of 2019. Even if you can’t volunteer, consider coming for at least part of the day! Here is what we need help with:

  • Back Up Volunteers
