For those who are waiting to know more about the program and what will be shared, work-shopped and discussed we are able to give you a sneak peak of a keynote speaker presenting on day one. Ashley Fell is a social researcher, trends analyst and Team Leader of Communications at the internationally recognised McCrindle. Her expertise is in training and equipping leaders and teams on how to communicate across generational barriers – be prepared to be amazed at her demographic data and what our lives between the flags may look like in the future. A draft program will be shared in the coming weeks, and we thank our members who have shared their thoughts and ideas for sessions at the conference. NSW Volunteer of the Year AwardsThe NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards is an annual program run by The Centre for Volunteering to recognise the outstanding efforts of the 2 million+ volunteers in NSW, and to promote the importance of volunteering to the community. Second North Coast Shark Net TrialNorth coast residents are now invited to provide feedback on the second trial of shark nets at Ballina, Lennox Head and Evans Head. Members of the community can complete the survey online here by 18 May. Members of the community can learn more about the shark nets and other mitigation measures being tested and trialled in the region at a community drop-in stand at Lighthouse Beach on Saturday 12 May between 9am – 1pm. Tathra AppealSurf Life Saving NSW is proud to stand alongside and support the Tathra community as they work to recover and rebuild after the devastating bushfires that swept through the area in March. As they now move into the rebuild phase, we have launched an appeal to provide much needed relief to the communities impacted. The total sum donated will be forwarded to the Mayoral Appeal Fund where the management and distribution of these funds will be overseen by an independent Advisory Panel chaired by the Mayor Cr, Kirsty McBain. All donations are greatly appreciated and can be made here. AIDR Emergency Management Volunteer Scholarship - Closing 14 MayOn behalf of the Federal Government the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR) is offering the AIDR Emergency Management Volunteer Scholarship Rd 3, which is now open and closes on 14 May 2018. The million dollar scholarship fund has been established to recognise the complex service delivered by volunteers and the high-level skills and leadership required to respond to emergency situations. Funding is available for the reimbursement of education and training costs for volunteers in an emergency management agency that wish to undertake studies in accredited units or courses in emergency and disaster management vocational training and education, and higher education. This is a small grant opportunity suitable for all Gold Coast and NSW Northern Rivers Surf Life Saving Clubs and Branches, providing funding of up to $1,000 for one-off requests for initiatives which benefit local communities. More information is available via Memo: Gold Coast Airport Community Benefit Fund FY 2018 Westfield Aus Local Hero Program - Closing 16 May The Westfield Aus Local Hero Program is open to nominations for individuals who promote social wellbeing and/or harmony in our communities through their work, programs or activities, across one or more of the three social values of Family, Youth Opportunity and Inclusion. Individuals are nominated and voted for by their communities, with three finalists per Westfield Living centre each awarded a $10,000 grant to support their affiliated organisation’s work, programs or activities.
