Introducing the "Careers in CVM" Newsletter

Greetings!  This is the first edition of the monthly Careers in CVM newsletter dedicated to inform internal stakeholders in UF CVM about trends in the veterinary career fields, opportunities for events and workshops, and resources available to our UF CVM students, faculty, and staff.

Career Resources Now Available in the College

UF CVM now has a Career Coach. Katelyn Jerles serves as the Assistant Director for Career & Industry Engagement here at UF CVM. Customized and valuable resources are now accessible both online and through individual student career planning appointments.  'Like' the UF CVM Careers Facebook page for trends, resources, and events related to careers.

Faculty and Staff Resources - Gator CareerLink

By visiting www.crc.ufl.edu/ Faculty and Staff can access Gator CareerLink (GCL) - the online career resource and job board for all UF students and alumni. Resources include webinars from previous workshops including Graduate Resumes/CVs and Interviewing in Academia.

Student Tip - Avoid
This Common Mistake When Applying

When on the hunt for a new position you may get bogged down or disheartened by the job search process. It can be incredibly easy to send out the same resume/CV and similar cover letters - DON'T!  Failing to tailor both your resume/CV and cover letter to the position is one of the major mistakes in the job search process.  Quality documents shine through the stack of  applications while mediocre ones get shuffled into the pile. Learn about the transition from student to Shelter Veterinarian and more about daily life, benefits, and perks of City of El Paso Animal Services.  Students, Offshore Students, and House Officers from all years are encouraged to participate.

Mock Phone Interviews (Currently Booked - Watch for more in the future!)
January 26th (Thursday) 12:30pm-4pm 
Practice a phone interview with an employer.  Molly McAndrew from VetCo Clinics will be conducting mock phone/skype interviews and offering feedback, register now before slots are filled.  Students of all years are encouraged to participate.

Negotiation 101: Learn and Do!
February 9 (Thursday) 5pm-7pm New Auditorium
Come learn about negotiation tips and techniques then practice these techniques with veterinary professionals.  Students, Offshore Students, and House Officers from all years are encouraged to participate.
