Only 3 days until World Lymphoma Awareness Day - Sunday 15 September
Did you know!? Lymphoma is the most common blood cancer in Australia. There are more than 6,400 new diagnoses each year in Australia (17 people every day), with as many Australians losing their lives to lymphoma as skin cancer.
Lymphoma is the most common form of blood cancer and takes two main forms – Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The cause of lymphoma is unknown despite it being the sixth most common cancer, and there are no screening tests for lymphomas. It is the most common cancer in young adults and the third most common childhood cancer.
Together we can put the LIMELIGHT on LYMPHOMA. Join us and GO LIME for lymphoma this September.
November PBAC meetingBefore a medicine is approved in Australia for PBS reimbursement there are number of processes to be followed including a submission to the Australian PBAC committee. PBAC meet four times per year to assess new listings and there are two lymphoma medications that are being considered at their November meeting.
CLL or SLL
IBRUTINIB for the treatment of patients with previously untreated CLL or SLL with evidence of one or more 17p chromosomal deletions.
DLBCL
POLATUZUMAB VEDOTIN for the treatment of patients with relapsed or refractory DLBCL who are ineligible for stem cell transplantation.
If you have had access to either of the above treatments or could potentially benefit from these medicines, you can make a personal submission to PBAC to help them in their decision-making process. Whilst PBAC do take into consideration safety, outcomes and cost effectiveness they also welcome input from the patient community.
The submission for patients is very simple and this link will take you to the form that you need to complete:
