14th February 2020A Message from the Head...I am delighted to announce that tickets have now been released on general sale for the High School annual production which this year is the uplifting and inspiring Sister Act – the musical. Please click on the picture above to visit the ticket selling platform for this production which will take place on the nights of Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th March 2020. I’m looking forward to seeing you all there! It was my great pleasure this week to attend two Combined Cadet Force (CCF) events which took place in school. The first was the Cadet Enrolment Ceremony (pictured above) which marks the end of the recruitment phase for Cadets and sees them receiving their berets. See the CCF article below for more information. The second event was a carefully crafted obstacle course for the Pre-Reception and Reception classes (aka the Gateways Army) to test their skills on. This was the second such event and it certainly went down a treat! It was great to see how much the children improved in balance and confidence as the session progressed. They are already looking forward to the summer term event! Click here to see some of the pictures I took whilst helping out. The annual ski trip to Folgarida departs early tomorrow and I look forward to spending a few enjoyable days away with 30 intrepid skiers along with Mrs Holmes and Miss Sadler. We post updates via our Twitter feed so do follow us on @gatewaysskitrip to see what we get up to! Have a great half term everyone. - Dr Tracy Johnson - Pupil news...Safiyyah and Aaminah get off the ground for local charity CandlelightersSafiyyah Adeel and Aaminah Khan recently undertook an indoor skydive in order to raise money for the Candelighters charity. Candlelighters support families in Yorkshire who are facing children's cancer. They get involved in all sorts of different projects to help ordinary families who are facing extraordinary circumstances. The fundraising was a huge success, the girls had initially hoped to raise £500 however, they raised over £1000! This is really impressive and we are all very proud of them here at Gateways. As you can see from the photos, the girls really enjoyed this athletic activity and I'm sure this experience will be an unforgettable memory for them. - Annie Gu, Community Outreach Prefect - Dalia helps organise Child Friendly Leeds eventUpper 4 Pupil Dalia Serr has been busy recently as part of a small team of young people tasked to help plan and organise the Child Friendly Leeds Awards ceremony. The event celebrates young people and organisations supporting young people in Leeds giving recognition for their good work and achievements. Dalia was successful in her application to be part of the team which was made up of ten young people aged 11-15 from different schools across Leeds. Since September she has attended weekly group meetings to plan the awards ceremony. The team worked together to decide on the theme, select performers and organise pre-show entertainment and decor. The awards night took place on the 6th Feb at Leeds City Varieties, Dalia and the team took centre stage performing their own script in line with the 'space' theme of the event to a full house. For more information about the awards and the list of winners click here. What an amazing experience - well done Dalia! Netball recognition for LucyLower 4 pupil Lucy Dyer has just completed 20 weeks netball training on the West Yorkshire Performance Pathway. Despite being only 13 she trained with the under 15s due to a timing clash with her Combined Cadet Force Training. The last session took place this week and included an awards ceremony. Lucy’s efforts earned her the reward of 'Most Improved Player'. Congratulations Lucy! PE Kit reminder It has come to our attention that only a minority of our pupils have the full sports kit and have all items named. Can we therefore ask that you please refer to the kit list and check that your son / daughter has all the required items and ensure that they are all clearly named. Please see the picture above to show you what PE kit boys and girls should be wearing when walking round school and also in a PE / games lesson. Click here for the full article. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. - Mrs Laura Braithwaite - CCF Enrolment CeremonyTuesday saw our CCF Cadets all on parade for their enrolment ceremony. This involved the Cadets being presented with their long awaited berets from Major David Crawford, Commanding Officer of 4 Brigade Cadet Training Team. Parents, Governors, and Heads of both Horsforth and Gateways were in attendance. The enrolment ceremony marks the end of the recruitment phase; the cadets have worked very hard to achieve this in a record short space of time, well done to all of them, a very proud moment for all involved.
