Hello again,

I hope this message finds you safe and well.

Thanks for all the messages. It really brightens my day to hear from you and to know you are safe and well.

This week has been very busy. Working from home and home schooling are going well. We’re in week four now and we are getting the hang of it. I started a new 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle, my knitting is going slowly and I have been checking in on friends online. We did a bit of a special project this week, which is in a section below.

It’s really good to see Tasmania’s infection rate being right down, especially having a day with no new infections. This social distancing is really working. Hopefully after May 15 there can be some easing of the restrictions.

Keeping Busy?

In the last week I have received the following updates:

  • Helen Quaggin, a Flower Volunteer, says, “I have taken to jigsaw puzzles and completed this 1000 piece jigsaw teapot and tea cups, pictured below. I would like to get it framed when life gets better. I have started another 1000 piece it's a gymnasium and like the other is very challenging. I’ll send another picture later. My garden is getting lots of attention. Today I harvested lots of almonds from our tree and drying them before shelling the yummy almonds.”

  • Christine Knight, our Diversional Games volunteer, We are still renovating. I have been preparing bricks which were removed for a new window to be used elsewhere in the extension. See centre photo.I am missing the challenge of finding something interesting for rehab patients as well as the interaction with staff. It’s such a different world and yet it looks exactly the same from my window.

  • Ruby and I have been doing school work in the morning and craft in the afternoon. This week our focus has been on getting into the routine of online classes with her teach each morning. And I have started a 1000 piece jigsaw of my own. It’s really hard.

Please write in and let me know what you’re up to so I can share with everyone. If we update weekly maybe we won’t feel so isolated… and hopefully we can be chatting in person soon. -

Bang-a-Bin for COVID

Here’s my little side project. Many of you might know that my background is in performing arts and I have a long association with Hobart theatre. What you might not know is that I had my start in Uni Revue, way back in the early 90s. Although I no longer participate in the shows I am a life member of the company and have retained my association with them for nearly 30 years.

Way back in 2003 a musical number was written called Wheelie Bin Orchestra. With all the attention on Facebook for the “Bin Isolation Outing group we thought we’d reprise our little number.

So, click below or the picture above to have a look. I’m there in my PJs just about to put the bin out. There is a rumour of a second project, I think I’ll up the ante on the costume next time.

It’s up online Here .

As I write we’re up to 3,000 views and still rising.
