Throwback ThursdayRotarian Conference at Strathfield Town HallThis distinguished group of gentlemen met at Strathfield Town Hall in late September 1944 for the annual conference of the NSW District of the Rotary Club. The conference was hosted by the Burwood club, which had been established in 1939. World War II was a precarious time to be a Rotarian in Europe where members had been imprisoned and even executed by the Gestapo. The charters and membership of Rotary Clubs in enemy and enemy-occupied countries were cancelled by Rotary International until stable governments could be reinstated after the war. The Rotary Club of Strathfield was formed in 1971. Image by Sam Hood. Courtesy of the State Library of NSW |
