Click here Monthly Newsletter | July 2018NewsMargaret Fang was awarded a 5 year K24 Midcareer Investigator Award from the NIH/National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for $609,000, “Use and outcomes of anticoagulants for the treatment and prevention of thrombosis among hospitalized patients.” This grant will support her efforts to mentor early career researchers, as well as fund her research studying contemporary trends in the use and outcomes of anticoagulants in hospital settings. Meet Mike Wang Assistant Clinical Professor Other News DHM volunteered at Golden Gate Park on May 11, 2018. Our team worked diligently and restored the habitat, removed invasive species, and improved the botanical garden. The work is equivalent to an in-kind donation of $1,305.09. Thank you to everyone who volunteered! James Anstey, Academic Hospital Medicine Fellow, was born in Livermore, California. He enjoys playing basketball, hiking, fishing, and traveling. James's career interest is in the quality of care and utilization of clinical resources. Nick Iverson, Academic Hospital Medicine Fellow, was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. Nick enjoys playing guitar, going to concerts, cooking, and woodworking. His career interests include curriculum development in medical education and health education for the public. David Sterken, Academic Hospital Medicine Fellow, grew up in Madison, Wisconsin. David enjoys individual sports, playing music, and traveling. His career goal is to become a hospitalist at an academic medical center where he can focus on medical education. Logan Pierce, Clinical Informatics Fellow, was born and raised in San Francisco, California. James was introduced to the field of Clinical Informatics through UCLA's Resident Informaticist program, which gave him the opportunity to lead several projects aimed at improving point-of-care cost transparency for clinical providers. Matt Sakumoto, Clinical Informatics Fellow, earned his MD at Northwestern and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Scripps Mercy Hospital. Matt's career interests include population health management and improving the usability and efficiency of the electronic medical record. Abhi Kole, Global Health-Hospital Medicine Fellow, was born in Calcutta, India. Abhi enjoys mentoring children at several programs including a sickle cell buddy program, autism buddy program, and Destination Imagination, that combines theatrical and scientific elements. Natalia Loaiza, DHM Administrative and Onboarding Coordinator, received her undergraduate degree in International Studies from the University of Michigan. Natalia enjoys eating at new restaurants, reading Sci-fi books, and strolling through parks. Christine Lam "Thank you to Christine for all her incredible hard-work putting together the 18-19 clinical schedule. We added a number of services, changes to our ward schedule structure, and a lot of new faculty to accommodate our St. Mary’s expansion. Christine kept track of everything and did her best to accommodate everyone’s complex scheduling needs.
