SOA HONOR’S DAY TOMORROW
The annual School of Architecture Honor’s Day will fill Glasgow Hall with graduates, family, organizations and donors starting at 8 a.m. At the conclusion of the awards presentation, all graduates and guests are invited to enjoy refreshments and view the Graduation Exhibit in Korach Gallery. 

GRADUATION EXHIBIT & RECEPTION
Graduating students were given the opportunity to submit one piece of work that demonstrates their abilities or reflects their best work from their time at the School of Architecture for our Graduation Exhibit. The exhibit will be in Korach Gallery from the 7th to the 10th. All Architecture undergraduates, graduates and friends and family, are invited to the Graduation Reception in the Korach Gallery after the Friday ceremony.  There will be a buffet to enjoy, and the Graduation Exhibit will be on display for photo opportunities.

GRADUATION CEREMONIES
The Architecture Graduate Degree Ceremony will start tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Bank United Center. On the following day, Friday, May 9, the Architecture Undergraduate Degree Ceremony will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Bank United Center.

FREE AIA MEMBERSHIP FOR NEW GRADS
At Honor’s Day, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Miami Chapter will enable new grads to receive complimentary AIA membership for up to 18 months, plus free Convention registration. This is part of how you design the career you want. Free membership provides: events, activities, and networking opportunities, as well as Intern Development Program (IDP) support, including help finding IDP coordinators and mentors.

PROFESSOR PARK CONTINUES DIGITAL DESIGN WORKSHOPS ONLINE
Assistant Professor Ju Hong Park resumes the ‘Digital Design Workshop’ series this month. The 10-day online workshop will focus on Rhino Python Programming. For more information, please email Professor Park, j.park2@miami.edu.

STUDENT RECEIVES GLOBAL HEALTH CORPS FELLOWSHIP
Marcela P. Laverde received a Design Fellowship with MASS Design Group in Rwanda and will attend orientation at Yale prior to beginning her assignment.

KATHY WHEELER INTRODUCES NEW BOOK
Assistant Professor Katherine Wheeler released her book Victorian Perceptions of Renaissance Architecture (Studies in Art Historiography) in April.  Now for pre-order on Amazon, the book traces the gradual acceptance of Renaissance architecture through the writings of John Ruskin, John Addington Symonds, Walter Pater, William J. Anderson, Reginald Blomfield, and Geoffrey Scott, among other architects and critics, focusing on the intersection of architectural history, practice, and education. 

ROBERTO BEHAR AND ROSARIO MARQUARDT ADD TWO VOLUMES
TO INCOMPLETE WORKS

Partners in the firm of R & R Studios, Associate Professor in Practice Roberto Behar and Adjunct Faculty Rosario Marquardt  are known worldwide for their museum and public art installations including the gigantic red M in Downtown Miami. That was the first volume in their series R & R Studios Incomplete Works. They now have added a second and third volumeincluding The Living Room and Museum Works. All three volumes are available through Amazon.

CARIE PENABAD AND ADIB CURE ATTEND CONFERENCE
ON INFORMAL CITY COMPUTER MAPPING WITH UM COLLEAGUES

Associate Professor Penabad and Assistant Professor in Practice Adib Cure continue their work on the world’s informal cities by participating in a conference being held at the Miami Beach Convention Center this week. This academic gathering will include collaboration with the UM Center for Computational Science and the Center for Latin American Studies. New innovative mapping practices are essential in gaining accurate data on urban informality that affect the living standards of these city residents. The conference is “Crossmedia Imaging of Latin American Informal Cities” and is being attended by the University’s Center for Latin American Studies, the School of Architecture, and the Center for Computational Science.

CARMEN GUERRERO AND ITALIAN STUDENTS FEATURED IN VERITAS
School of Architecture Associate Professor in Practice and Undergraduate Rome Program Director Carmen Guerrero and her architecture student workshop in Palermo, Italy were featured in VERITAS as they discussed models and analyses of “Coral Gables: An American Mediterranean City” funded by the Italian Ministry of Education’s Messengers of Knowledge program.
