Click here Annual General Meeting 2019 ReminderAs advised to members on 6th August 2019 in the Preliminary Notice, and in accordance with the Rules of Association of JOY Melbourne Inc, submissions for Agenda items and nominations for Board Member positions close 5pm Sunday 15 September 2019. JOY is also seeking submissions for the Addam Stobbs Award for Broadcasting Excellence, and the Anne Hamilton Award for Volunteering Excellence, and for Life Member by this date also. Getting to know my new familyThanks so much to everyone who has popped in or otherwise introduced themselves to me – I am feeling very much at home here at JOY and you have made it all the easier. I am overwhelmed by the offers of support and help and I want to let you know that I am working with the team to look at how we can best engage with you. I met many long term members and volunteers at our Forum last week, but I did note that many of our regular presenters didn’t make it. I believe it’s time to bring presenters together to strengthen the off air relationships that will further grow our on air cohesion of sound. We will be calling a presenters meeting shortly so we can get together, spend some time with those colleagues we may not get to see very often, and discuss our shared values for JOY’s on air footprint. Rejuvenating JOYWorking with the office team, we have been busy submitting funding applications and reviewing our recurring expenditure items to pick up some financial wins for JOY. We are also now asking our CSA organisations to consider joining JOY as an organisational member, and I ask for your support in encouraging this to happen. Our CSA’s cost on average $2,000 to create, and a membership of $165 is a small but important show of support from our friends right now. Please reach out through your networks and ask any organisations your involved with to join us! You will also note some new traff items that Jack will be launching letting our listeners know or (reminding our regulars) that we rely on memberships and donations to bring independent community radio to them. Please bring attention to this and also acknowledge any donations or memberships you receive during your show using first name only. We very much appreciate you all keeping this front of mind right now! Security at City Village and at JOYLast weekend, an intruder entered the JOY tenancy and was a nuisance almost to the point of being a threat to JOY, volunteers, guests and property. The situation was resolved, but it highlighted the need for vigilance about who enters our premises. Explainer - During weekday office hours only, all City Village tenants have the benefit of the Concierge (employed by the Council), as well as secure doors on the stairwells, each tenancy, and the lift cars (for most floors). After-hours and at weekends, tenants are directly responsible for the security. JOY has provided all entitled volunteers and staff an electronic fob (which we also use for our Sign-in register) for access via the Front Doors of City Village and to our Level 9 tenancy. Access for guests to our tenancy is managed via the ground floor inter-com and our own door release. The identity of all ‘visitors’ needs to be verified before being granted access to the building or our tenancy. At any time, be careful of any strangers who ‘slip-stream’ behind entitled entrants. Please note our front desk intercom has now been replaced by the City of Melbourne – this should make the identification of visitors easier. Actions:
