Employability Week 6 – 10 August
Whether you’re just starting your undergraduate degree or coming to the end of your time at the University, it’s never too early to start thinking about your employability skills, your goals and your future. University Non-Teaching Week
24 – 30 Sept. You will not have classes scheduled during this week.
Examination period
29 Oct – 16 Nov. Students need to make sure they are available for the entire examination period.
Results release date
30 Nov.
Special/Supplementary Examination Period
6 – 13 Dec. If awarded a special/supplementary exam, students are required to ensure they are in Melbourne and available to sit their exams.

ACICIS Agriculture Semester Program (ASP) – up to $6,000 New Colombo Plan Funding
Taught in English, this program allows students to take subjects in a range of discipline areas at Bogor Agricultural University, agribusiness, agronomy and horticulture, plant protection, forestry, food science and technology, and animal production technology. Students also put their classroom studies into practice through a professional placement (internship) undertaken alongside their university coursework. Applications close 1st September. Careers Outside the Lab: Where Science and Law meet
On Tues 7 Aug, The Faculty of Science and Melbourne Law School are offering students an exciting opportunity to hear from panellists who have articulated from the Bachelor of Science into the Juris Doctor. Science Delivery
The Science Delivery program is aimed at increasing the participation of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds in STEM. Current university students who have come from financially disadvantaged or rural backgrounds are recruited and trained as volunteer science presenters, developing their communication, teamwork and project development skills. Science Delivery will be happening again in Semester 2 and applications are now open. More info here.

Do you have the skills you need to get the job you want? Job Ready will develop your communications skills and enhance your employability, so you’ll stand out from the crowd when applying for jobs! This 8-week program (1hr/week) is designed specifically for STEM students and covers topics including Job Search 101, Public Speaking, Clear Writing & Editing, and How to be Successful in Interviews. Science 101: Rebooted
Taking place on Tues 14 Aug, 12.30pm–1.30pm Science 101 - Rebooted is an event designed to support first year students as they transition into University. All we need is for you to do be a friendly face and answer any questions that our commencing students may have about the transition to University. Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)
UROP is a scheme designed to give undergraduate students a real-life opportunity to experience working in a research laboratory and gain insight into career paths in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medical (STEMM) research. UROP scholars are employed by a research team for at least 8 hours per week for a paid placement period of 6–12 months. More info here.

Westpac Future Leaders
Are you considering applying for a 2019 postgraduate course at UoM? Then you may be eligible to apply for the Westpac Future Leaders Scholarship. Open to Australian students wishing to undertake graduate coursework or research in the areas of technology and innovation, strengthening Australia-Asia ties or enabling positive social change, the scholarship includes up to AUD$120,000 over 2-3 years to cover the cost of study as well as other benefits. Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Summer Scholarship Program
This program is open to undergraduate students in STEM to undertake a 6-week research project using data science, computer science algorithms, modeling, statistics and/or maths to answer questions in cancer using big data from genomics. Regional/rural background students considering postgrad study in Medicine, Dentistry or Health Sciences are invited to an info evening at Ormond College on 31 July from 5.30pm-6.30pm. Join the 200 tutors who dedicate January to fighting disadvantage in education by volunteering with the VCE Summer School! Give VCE students a head start in their final years by sharing your knowledge and expertise. The program will run from 7–18 Jan 2019 and university students of all levels of tutoring experience are encouraged to apply. More info here.

Learn to speak with confidence and overcome the intimidating barrier of speaker's block. You are invited to consider enrolling in this new subject which offers an exciting learning experience. Human behaviour in bushfires – European Union and Australian knowledge exchange project
As part of the EU research project called GEO-SAFE we are collaborating with Australian partners and looking for people to take part in our research about human behaviour in bushfires. We call for contribution from everyone who has or has never been confronted by a bushfire emergency to help improve future support systems for at risk populations. More info here.

First child assisted with oxygen from FREO2 life-saving low pressure oxygen store in Uganda
The FREO2 low pressure oxygen system is live and has assisted a child in Mbarara, Uganda for the first time. Designed by a team from the University of Melbourne, the FREO2 low pressure oxygen store (LPOS) is a low cost, low maintenance and electricity-free oxygen concentrator designed to combat pneumonia in developing countries.
