WORK STARTS ON KINDERGARTENS

Expansion works have started on two kindergartens to ensure they are ready to welcome extra students, with the introduction of 5 hours of funded 3-year-old kinder in 2022.

Marie Williams Kindergarten and Kilmore Maternal and Child Health Centre will be transformed into an integrated family and children’s centre welcoming an additional 58 kindergarten places.

The $3.36 million upgrade is thanks to $1.86 million from the Victorian Government’s Building Blocks fund, $1.1 million from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund and more than $394,000 from Mitchell Shire Council.

Works at Wandong Kindergarten and Wandong Maternal and Child Health Centre will see an extra 20 kindergarten places made available.

The $498,000 Wandong Kindergarten Expansion is funded by the Victorian State Government through the Building Blocks fund.

Member for Northern Victoria, the Hon. Jaclyn Symes (pictured right) and Mitchell Shire Mayor Cr Rhonda Sanderson (pictured left) visited the two sites this week.

IN THE POOL New Swim and Survive Program

We are excited to welcome students back to our Learn to Swim classes.

We're making some updates during Term 3 as we transition to a new national curriculum which provides national benchmarks for children’s swimming and water safety competencies.

We anticipate minimal disruption to classes, and assessments will be ongoing during the term to ensure every child is in their correct level.

The new curriculum includes four Infant levels and 12 general Swim and Survive levels.

NATIONAL TREE DAY

It's almost time for National Tree Day, where residents will be given the chance to play their part in a better future on 1 August.

You can celebrate in your own backyard by planting a native plant or just getting out into nature.

This year, Council is partnering with Melbourne Water to run a Spring community planting day in Hadfield Park Wallan, as part of the Wallan Creek Naturalisation project. We'll be doing this later this year, so keep an eye out for details.

If you're looking for something to do this weekend, Planet Ark also have some great National Tree Day activity sheets on their website.
