Mentee Ilana Drake Performs & Meets Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden

Girls Write Now mentee Ilana Drake and Anthology Committee member and mentor Patricia Rossi represented Girls Write Now at the Gold Coast Book Festival in Oyster Bay, sponsored by Theodore's Books. Drake had the opportunity to present a copy of On the Art of the Craft to Carla Hayden, the first Black woman to serve as the Librarian of Congress.

From Brainstorm to Bestseller

Fiction 360 Brings Mentees' Books to Life

Over the course of the past year, mentees in our Fiction 360 program ambitiously drafted a novel throughout the month of November, received feedback from a professional editor, and learned how to pitch their edited manuscripts. Mentees aged 14-18 had the chance to submit to a special writing contest hosted in collaboration with Penguin Random House and Electric Lit.

Girls Write Now is excited to partner with Zibby Books' author Mary Jones to celebrate the launch of her book, The Goodbye Process. Mary will be joined by Victoria Patterson. Girls Write Now mentees Kayla Misa and Julia Choi will read their work and share their experiences. Plus, attendees who pick up a copy of Girls Write Now on the Art of the Craft will receive a free copy of Here & Now: the Girls Write Now 2024 Anthology.

The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is one of the biggest and most prestigious poetry competitions for 11-17 year olds in the world. Every year, 15 top winners and 85 commended poets are chosen; together, they represent some of the most exciting new voices writing today. Entries must be written in English, but you can include phrases in your mother tongue or another language.
