Winter Safety and Fire Protection

Many areas in Texas will seldom forecast snow, but residents of the Lone Star state can still benefit from American Academy of Pediatrics' valuable tips on how to keep your children safe and warm.

During times of cold temperatures, incidence of fire can increase as people try to keep warm.

Use the information outlined below about fire safety in your home:
• buy and install smoke alarms;
• test smoke alarms monthly;
• practice fire drills with your children;
• install a carbon monoxide detector outside bedrooms;
• and keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that could burn, and turn them off when leaving the room or sleeping.
