New Tools to help you with your iGEM Project

The Phoenix Project: A new tool for browsing previous iGEM Projects!

The Phoenix Project aims to increase the number of iGEM projects that live on beyond their initial iGEM Cycle. Build off a previous iGEM project or find what iGEM teams have done in past years, using the new beta-version of our search tool at igem.org/phoenix.

Take some time to explore and learn from the teams that came before you. Even if you have already selected a project for this year, try to find teams that had similar goals and pick up from where they left off. If you have questions about the project, our data, or how we can help you this year, please reach out to phoenix [AT] igem [DOT] org.

    The WAIR-tool: Future-proof your project!

As an iGEM team, you want your SynBio work to make a meaningful impact on the world. What problems might your project solve? Which stakeholders do you need for that? What safety or security risks might emerge that you need to avoid?!? And what does this all mean for how you design your iGEM project?

To help you on your way with answering these big questions, members of the iGEM SDG working group have developed WAIR: the Wheel of Action, Interaction and Reflection. You can access WAIR here. Click ‘start from template’ to create a Mural-account with your team’s unique brainstorming space. For any questions, or if you wish to use this tool without creating your own Mural account, please send an email to Kelly: k.d.streekstra [AT] vu [DOT] nl.

    IDT Codon Optimization Tool

Ready to start designing your DNA sequences? Take advantage of IDT’s free resources, including the IDT Codon Optimization Tool, which simplifies the design of genes and gene fragments. In a few easy steps, you can upload your sequence, adjust your codon usage biases, and submit your order. Learn more: www.idtdna.com/CodonOpt. If you haven’t registered your team yet, visit IDT’s sponsor page to learn how to access up to 20 kb of free gene fragments.
