Talent At Core of New Economic Development Strategy

The Murphy's Administration's Jobs NJ economic development strategy was unveiled late last month. It aims to expand the education and training available for workers so that employers can more quickly fill jobs with the right candidates. The 14 initiatives proposed fall across three objectives—expanding access to opportunity, training individuals for in-demand jobs, and matching talent to jobs.

New Policies Regarding Severance Packages

Changes to the policies and laws regarding severance pay for companies have been enacted. The amended law now increases the pre-notification time and broadens the scope of when severance payouts are required, such as plant closings, transfers, mass layoffs and various employment statuses. The changes will go into effect in May 2020.

Extended Tax Credits for Film Production

Coming off a successful year of film for the state—with productions such as Joker and West Side Story bringing skilled talent and business to the New Jersey film industry—New Jersey has expanded the Film and Digital Media Tax Credit Program. The extension lasts into 2028 and raises the annual cap on qualified production-related expenses.
