They recently built 3d objects that will soon grow into a large art installation. Third GradeThird graders visited the Hive during each lunch period last week to help students learn how to sort their waste into separate bins for composting, recycling, and landfill. They weighed lunch waste each day as they learned about gathering and analyzing data, and are working on displaying their data using pictographs and bar graphs which will be on display at exhibition night on March 6. Fifth GradeThis February, the fifth graders recognized Black History Month by selecting a notable African American that has made an impact on his or her life, and creating a poster to represent this influential figure. Sixth GradeSixth graders hiked nearly 8 miles to reach the North Fortuna Summit at 1,291' in Mission Trails Park. They celebrated their summit by eating lunch in the midst of a cloud - too misty and thick to see the view, but it was certainly magical! Back in the classroom, students made personal connections between their own experience and the class novel, A Long Walk to Water, which follows two characters' journeys through Sudan. A Message from Network ParentsWe held our monthly meetings this past week and hope you were able to attend the coffee social on Friday. We have several important updates to share with you. We will hold elections soon for the positions of Vice President and Secretary. Both Aliya Weise and Tiffany Holm are ending their tenure this year. Please consider nominating yourself or someone else that you believe would be an eager and active participant in the Network. The nomination form can be found here. Last week, the Network Executive Board voted to make our existing management of the Facebook page titled “Friends and Family of UDA” more transparent and organized. To accomplish that, the page will be shuttered for a brief period after which guidelines for posting and other matters will be more readily apparent.
