Click here Vol 22 No 20 16 February 2017 A New Reading Initiative at The High SchoolA number of Form 4 pupils volunteered to visit a local care home in Orwell Road to read to the residents there. We all walked from The High School to the residence bringing either books or magazines with us as reading material. When we got there we were introduced to some of the residents in the sitting room. We each found a seat nearby and chatted with our new friends for a while and then we began to read. The home was warm and welcoming, and the nurses were very upbeat and friendly. It was a very moving and worthwhile experience for us all. LHA Junior League Hockey FinalLast Friday's tremendous hockey result means that our Junior A boys will be heading to the Leinster Schools League Final in the coming weeks. The game against Newpark Comprehensive School ended in a 1-0 win for The High School courtesy of a goal scored by Harry Lynch. Well done to our terrific players who gave it their all once again. We are looking forward to a thrilling league final when The High School play our old adversaries St Andrew's College on Wednesday 1 March in Wesley College beginning at 3.00 pm. All support is most welcome. Ireland Cricket 50th CapCongratulations to past pupil Amy Kenealy (HSD, 2000-06) and the Ireland Women's Cricket team which defeated Zimbabwe by 119 runs in the ICC World Cup qualifiers in Sri Lanka. We are especially proud of the two wickets taken by HSD past pupil Amy Kenealy who earned her 50th cap for Ireland on this occasion. Gymnastics at The High SchoolThis week's video feature focuses on Form 1 Gymnastics. Enjoy! Simon Community Fundraising SuccessA representative of the Student Council from The High School presented Jonathan Weir of the Dublin Simon Community with a cheque for €1200 which represented the proceeds of fundraising from the recent non-uniform day and Form 6 Charity Christmas dinner. High School Junior DebatingDebating Club is a brilliant experience for people who want to develop the skill of debating. We debate different current news topics each week. Debating is an inspiring activity for people who want to work on their public-speaking skills or simply to have fun. We meet up every Monday at 12.35 pm in the Library and we finish at 1.15 pm. If you think that debating might interest you, come along next Monday and give it a try - you would be most welcome! Dates for your Diary
