Dear colleagues,

This month, we feature a micro-video practice with major potential for restoring focus, plus a Well Being Journal feature and another good read.

NATURE MUSIC

Simple experiences with nature restore mental energy and attention, according to longstanding research. In this quick practice, or "quest," expert guide Avik Basu invites you to find a place outdoors where you can sit undisturbed for awhile. Close your eyes, open your ears, and listen for about 5 minutes. What do you hear? How does your experience of nature change when your eyes are closed?

HEALTH IS A RESOURCE, NOT A PROBLEM

An article by our lead expert, Dr. Joyce Young, is featured in the May/June 2019 issue of Well Being Journal, available now on newsstands.

In his introduction, journal editor Scott Miners writes: "Health is wholeness. You are whole....Joyce Young, MD, writes in this issue that health is a resource, not a problem. Health, she states, 'is a multidimensional process in dynamic balance with our natural and social environments.' She prescribes a shift of focus from a disease-centered view to a perception of health 'as a means to high personal capability, adaptability, and performance.'"

GOOD READ

Your first thought is rarely your best thought
When paired with high health practices for restoring mental energy and focus, these "lessons in thinking" are powerful: “Thinking time is non-linear. The time you spend thinking—walking around a problem in a three-dimensional way and exploring all of the various perspectives and mental models—pays you back tenfold in the end. ” —Shane Parrish, Farnam Street

WISER WORDS

“If you want to know, life is the principle of self-renewal, it is constantly renewing and remaking and changing and transfiguring itself, it is infinitely beyond your or my obtuse theories about it.” —Boris Pasternak, Doctor Zhivago
