Provide feedback on the Pregnancy Care Guidelines

The Pregnancy Care Guidelines Review Public Consultation Draft (October 2018) has been released for public consultation. The document can be accessed on the Australian Government Department of Health Consultations Hub. This consultation is seeking feedback as part of a review of selected topics under the Pregnancy Care Guidelines. Any queries can be directed to the Secretariat for the review via email at eac@health.gov.au or call (02) 6289 8987.

The 2018 Australian Refugee Health Practice Guide

The Australian Refugee Health Practice Guide is a national resource that aims to support doctors, nurses and other primary care providers to deliver comprehensive on-arrival and ongoing health care to people from refugee backgrounds, including people seeking asylum. The 2018 edition comprises a desktop guide, booklets on key topics and a comprehensive website to reflect changes in the primary care context.

 
 
 

Free psychological support for families experiencing perinatal depression and anxiety

Gidget Foundation Australia offers free specialist perinatal psychological support services for families
experiencing emotional distress during pregnancy and early parenthood. Through it's network of Gidget Houses, Gidget Foundation Australia provides psychological support services for people who have a diagnosis of, or are at risk of developing, perinatal depression and/or anxiety and who are pregnant or have a baby up to 12 months old.

Invitation to take part in a research project

Are you a GP or sexual and reproductive health service provider that has substantial experience in providing contraceptive services to overseas-born ethnic Chinese women? You are invited to participate in a study that is being conducted at the University of Sydney, which aims to better understand the decision support needs of Chinese women in Australia when choosing contraceptive methods. This study could potentially lead to adaptation or development of contraception decision support strategies or tools for women of Chinese ethnic background.

Improving and supporting the mental health of people in LGBTI communities is the focus of a wide range of community events and initiatives across NSW during October’s Mental Health Month. Mental Health Month is observed annually in October to promote the importance of early intervention practices for positive mental health and wellbeing, and reduce the stigma associated with mental health. ACON, NSW’s leading HIV prevention, HIV support and LGBTI health organisation, is proud to support Mental Health Month.

Care and Share program

3Bridges has been funded to run a pilot Care and Share program that provides accommodation and training for women at risk of homelessness and in home support for women living on their own. The key focus now is to engage partners and participants. On Friday 26 October 3Bridges Community is hosting an afternoon tea on the Care and Share opportunity at Mortdale Cottage, 25 Cook St in Mortdale at 3.30pm – 5.30pm. Gain client referrals through national eating disorders helpline

Australia’s eating disorders tele-health service, the Butterfly Foundation’s National Helpline, which receives more than 12,000 consumer contacts a year, is calling for more practitioners and services with a basic understanding of eating disorders to apply to be on their database. General practitioners, psychiatrists, psychologists, dietitians, counsellors, dentists, other clinicians and allied health practitioners are encouraged to find out more and apply. 

 

Following Central and Eastern Sydney PHN's recent move to Mascot, the CESPHN CPD program will continue to operate uninterrupted across the region. We will be using a number of venues around the St George and Inner West areas in place of the previous Ashfield and Kogarah office locations. CPD venues we will be using include:
