Click here UDA Weekly UpdateApril 16, 2017Middle School Information NightAll 4th and 5th grade families are invited and encouraged to attend our Middle School Information event on Tuesday, April 25 from 4pm -5pm in THE STAGE. You will have the opportunity to meet the middle school staff, learn about academics and middle-school-specific programs, take a tour of the classrooms, and get a glimpse into some of the rigorous work that our students are doing. UDA Golf Tournament & Family Fun NightCome one, come all! Come young, come old! Come big, come small! Created and planned with everyone in mind, the UDA Annual Golf Tournament and Family Fun Night will be held on Friday, May 12 at Salt Creek Golf Course. The shotgun start for golf takes place at 12pm, Family Fun Zone opens at 4:00, and dinner, raffles, auction and entertainment begin at 5:00. We really need your support at this year’s Golf Tournament fundraiser, to help fill our financial shortfalls this year!
Also, we will have a 50/50 Ball Drop with an opportunity to win up to $5,000! Balls are only $10 each. Look for the 50/50 sign-up sheet in your child’s backpack this week. Please support our children’s education and the UDA Network by inviting family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors to attend and enjoy this truly “designed for all” event. KinderKinder has been hard at work on their third trimester project. They are learning about physical science and experimenting with different types of building materials and structures. They will explore how our environments impact our building materials and the way structures are built. First GradeFirst grade recently visited SMARTs Farm to wrap up a project and harvest all of their vegetables. They even got to taste everything they planted, including kale, carrots, chard, radishes, sugar snap peas, and spinach. Fifth GradeLast week, the fifth graders welcomed a very special guest who read a Roald Dahl classic. He even used a kami shabai to help bring the story to life! Performing ArtsSecond grade students have been working on bringing a Reader's Theatre piece, "The Little Red Hen,” to life. Visual ArtsIn Visual Arts, first grade students made one-of-a-kind buttons with oven bake clay. They plan to sew these unique buttons onto their felt books next. Art ClubThe new session of after-school art club began with the making of watercolor dirt and root vegetables! Middle School Uniform DonationsIf your child in Middle School has outgrown his/her black or khaki uniform bottoms, please consider donating them to UDA to be used as loaners. Similarly, if your child borrowed loaner uniform pants, skirts, or shorts, please return them to the front office once they have been cleaned. A Message from Our Network ParentsParent-Organized March for Science THIS SATURDAY When: Saturday, April 22nd (Earth Day) Where: Meet at UDA at 9:30am to walk to Civic Center What: Show your support for science by joining others around the city and the country Click HERE (Spanish version here) to sign up and/or order a T-shirt ($15 each). You can pick up shirts on Thursday and Friday of this week, before and after school. Please bring payment at time of pick up. Cash/credit/check all work, and you can make checks payable to UDA. Sign making is happening this week on Wednesday from 12:30-2:30. We will meet in the Stage at UDA to make signs and banners to carry with us. Please note that this event is planned and organized by the parents at UDA and not the school. The school does not support or affiliate with any particular political organization at any time. The Network Community Group for UDA Facebook Group This group is facilitated by The Network and is a great way to stay in touch with other UDA families for play dates, advice, and valuable information. Network Executive Board Elections The Network has recently received nominations from the UDA parent community for two open officer positions. These positions are 2 year commitments and we really appreciate these ladies running to become part of our team! Please see their bios below and click on the Google form to vote. If you would like to be a member of the parent Network Executive Board next year, there will be several open committee positions for anyone who would like to volunteer. Details about these committees will be sent in future communication. For Vice President: Jen Gaston Hello, I am Jen Gaston and our family has been at UDA since 2010. I have two boys, one in 5th and another in 3rd grade. I currently work at a law firm and a surrogacy agency in finance. I have chaired the Fall Festival event at UDA for the past 2 years. I also enjoy keeping busy as a volunteer for The Princess Project SD and look forward to being more involved with The Network. For Secretary: Ashlea Gregoire My name is Ashlea Gregoire. My son Paul is in Mrs. Bartel's kindergarten class. I have been in the Navy for 12 years and in San Diego for 11 years. I am a registered yoga teacher and enjoy teaching to wounded warriors and veterans. I love all things San Diego and try to be outdoors as much as possible. Reporting an Absence ReminderIf your child needs to remain at home due to illness, family emergency, funeral, legal matter, or religious holiday, UDA needs to receive notification from a parent/guardian by 9am on the day of in order to excuse the absence. In order to report the absence, you may either call the school (619-788-4668) and select option 2 to leave a voice message, or send an email to attendance@urbansd.com.
