Monthly Newsletter | April 2020

Dear WIT@UCSF members,

While this pandemic has serious consequences for many people, we hope you are able to find levity and hope in your families and communities. For us on the leadership team, our own roles have shifted to respond to COVID-19, but we still wanted to provide you with resources and a sense of connection. On Friday, April 3rd, we hosted a new type of learning event called Tech Cafe, with a short, casual format, focused on the technology tools we can leverage while working remotely. We have received a strong positive response and will host another one this Friday, April 17th. Normally, we would have some photos from the event to share; this time we are sharing a screen shot of our session! Thanks to everyone who joined. Can't wait to see you at the next one!

Go Global Covid-19 Relief Hackathon

We’re crowdsourcing intelligence to rapidly develop and deploy technology for the most relevant pain points of the COVID-19 Pandemic. We see coordinated collaboration as the key to effectively accelerating solutions. We see our role in this event as a conduit to connecting skills & talent with users & need-knowers, while supporting them with the resources they need to prototype, test, and implement. In other words: knowledge sharing, resource sharing, open source, for the greater good.

NLP Challenge

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the White House and a coalition of leading research groups have prepared the COVID-19 Open Research Dataset (CORD-19).  We are issuing a call to action to the world's artificial intelligence experts to develop text and data mining tools that can help the medical community develop answers to high priority scientific questions.
