Salamanca Pedestrian Improvements September Update
Temporary Road Closure - Urgent Stormwater worksThe City of Hobart will undertake urgent stormwater replacement works in Morrison Street from 29 September 2019.
The works include the installation of a new concrete stormwater pipe to replace an old brick arch, which has been found to be in poor condition.
To complete these works, the following road closures are necessary and will be implemented from Sunday 29 September until Sunday 13 October 2019
• Morrison Street (Murray Street to Salamanca Place)
• Gladstone Street (Salamanca Place to Murray Street)
• Castray Esplanade (Morrison Street to Princes Wharf Shed No.1 (PW1))
During the closure period a number of detours will be in place.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel and follow signs and instructions of traffic controllers on site.
Detours and traffic restrictions- There will be no access to Morrison Street from Salamanca Place or Castray Esplanade.
- Morrison Street will remain accessible from
Murray Street or via Brook or Despard Streets.
- Murray Street traffic coming from the city will be directed left into Morrison Street (or able to go straight ahead into the TasPorts Car Park area).
- To access Battery Point or Sandy Bay from the waterfront, head to Elizabeth Street then left onto Davey Street and later left onto Sandy Bay Road.
- To access the waterfront from Sandy Bay, continue on Sandy Bay Road to Macquarie Street, turn right into Macquarie Street, then right into Murray Street and left into Morrison Street.
- To access Salamanca Place, either use Sandy Bay Road and turn left into Gladstone Street, or turn left from Davey Street.
- Vehicles exiting Franklin Wharf into Morrison Street will be required to turn right and continue to Elizabeth Street.
Salamanca Shuttle BusThe Saturday Salamanca Shuttle route has been amended during the works program.
The PW1 Salamanca Shuttle Bus Stop has been temporarily relocated to the bus zone at 31 Morrison Street, near the Customs House Hotel.
The shuttle stops on Castray Esplanade. The CSIRO stops will not be in operation while Castray Esplanade is closed to city bound traffic.
