Meet your Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year
In January this year Council recognised the outstanding efforts of many community members through its annual awards program, including its Citizen and Young Citizen of the year. We thought we’d take five and find out a little more about these two inspirational members of our community.
Matt Thomas – Citizen of the Year 2018
Matt is an Inglewood local who was nominated for his various roles with volunteer committees, community leaders group, and the Houghton Spring Fair, as well as his leading role in coordinating the new community building for the Houghton Inglewood and Hermitage Memorial Oval. “It’s very humbling to be recognised in this way.” Matt said when asked about his award. “I am accepting the award on behalf of the local community as I am only one of a larger group of people working to advance our community”.
Isaac Tinéy – Young Citizen of the Year 2018
At only 17 years Isaac is making a big impact on his local Gumeracha community. His contributions to local Anzac Day dawn services and commitment to commemorating the Anzacs through his local school was the basis for his nomination, as well as his volunteer work with the Town Hall Committee and his influence on fellow students. Isaac was also humble in accepting his award. “I was a quiet student in early high school and since volunteering I developed my self-confidence to a degree where I could productively give back to the community,” he said. “With Young Citizen of the Year behind my name I have an unbelievable feeling of great achievement and happiness”. Both Matt and Isaac encouraged their fellow residents to look at volunteering as a way to build their
communities and receive the greatest reward available: influencing a positive local difference. You just have to give it a go.

Be a 'Hailstorm Hero' and support our Adelaide Hills growersHailstorms that hit the hills late last year are now showing their effect on apples and pears rolling out across major sellers and grocers in South Australia, but the state's apple industry is urging customers not to neglect the blemished fruit. Our local growers need your support after a tough 12 to 18 months, so don't reject our hailstone produce - be a Hailstorm Hero and discover that beauty is only skin deep (and the fruit underneath is still as delicious as ever!).
