Webinar for Pharmacists: My Health Record using Fred Dispense

CESPHN held a live webinar on Tuesday 21 May which demonstrated how pharmacists can access My Health Record via Fred Dispense software, specifically, how to:

  • Validate a patient’s IHI to connect to My Health Record
  • View a patient’s My Health Record and access clinical documents
  • View a patient’s My Health Record with access code restrictions in place
  • Upload a dispense record to My Health Record and change consent
  • Upload an event summary to My Health Record containing allergies & conditions
  • Add a new pharmacist, retrieve and validate a HPI-I
  • Enable pharmacist access to the My Health Record within Fred Dispense

A recording of the webinar can be accessed here.

Embedding My Health Record in General Practice Resource

The Agency has produced a PowerPoint slide deck: ‘Embedding My Health Record in General Practice’, outlining roles and responsibilities for staff along with some user journey scenarios. The workflows have been created in editable templates to allow customisation, that can be accessed here.

Pharmacist Shared Medicines List (PSML)

PSML is set be a new feature of the MHR system, with the aim of enhancing medicines safety. Accessed through the medicines information view of MHR, it is a pharmacist-written, reconciled list detailing both prescription and non-prescription medicines (including over the counter and complementary medicines) taken by patients with chronic conditions. It represents what the patient is known to be taken at the time it was created by the pharmacist. According to the latest draft of PSA MHR guidelines, PSMLs can be created based on different sources such as a reconciled hospital discharge medicines list, dose administration aid medicines list, and after providing a professional service such as a Meds Check, Home Medicines Review or Residential Medication Management Review. See the guidelines here.

The second half of this year will see a pilot implementation into hospital pharmacies and community pharmacies and it is not anticipated to be widely accessible until next year.

Updated Aquarius Manual

The Aquarius MHR manual has been updated and released.

SA Pathology

South Australian (SA) Pathology has recently gone live and commenced uploading to MHR.

SA Pathology will upload reports from tests requested in hospital, including outpatients and also by GPs and private specialists. 50% of SA Pathology work is externally referred and they have collection centres state-wide.

SA consumers will be able to take any request form to a SA Pathology collection centre and their report will be uploaded to MHR.

The only other place in Australia where this is possible is in Brisbane if consumers select Mater Pathology.

MHR helps Australia prep for record flu season

Emergency doctor and epidemiologist Dr Andrew Jeremijenko explains why, this flu season, it is more important than ever that clinicians have access to up-to-date patient medical information. “MHR enables communication to flow, ensuring all Australians can have a proactive conversation with their clinician about the flu vaccine. MHR allows doctors to see if the patients have had the vaccine or not, and if they fit the high risk groups they can strongly recommend the vaccine.”

MHR – a vital tool in Asthma Management

For healthcare providers assisting patients with asthma management, MHR is a vital tool providing access to more information, improving visibility on the patient’s dispensed medications and shared health summary. Read more here.

Seeking My Health Record Champions - consumers and healthcare providers

Now that most Australians have a My Health Record, the Agency is looking to produce a suite of case study videos which demonstrate clear benefits of use. They are looking for both consumers and healthcare providers who have experienced a real benefit from using My Health Record.

They are keen to feature stories where a harmful event was prevented, a life saved, or the quality and continuity of care improved. They are particularly interested to show benefit for parents of young children, the elderly, teens, people with a complex health condition, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Stories relating to every day benefits such as time savings, health information in one place, security and privacy, accessible anywhere anytime - are also sought after.

Do you know someone who might be interested in sharing their story? Please get in touch by Friday 7 June 2019 at Robert.Corrigan@digitalhealth.gov.au.

Support your patients

The My Health Record website has a page with links to a range of resources including videos, brochures and fact sheets that have been developed to help you support your patients.

MHR & Pathology results

If your patient has a MHR, pathology reports could be uploaded by the pathology laboratory and made available for patient viewing seven days after. This gives clinicians time to review the report and if necessary, contact the patient to discuss the results prior. There is also a link to Lab Tests online available in the MHR consumer view of results to help explain pathology results, but patients should not be contacting pathology lab themselves to explain the results.
