We commemorate the passing of David Yaffa, proprietor of ADM's publisher Yaffa Media, over the weekend. A staunchly independent and passionate publisher, David built an empire of more than 30 business and consumer magazines and websites, becoming a significant force in Australian media. The thoughts of the ADM team are with the Yaffa family. The office will be closed on Friday as a mark of respect.
The news in today's Defence Week: I cover our Northern Australia Defence Summit in Darwin, negotiations resume for the Strategic Partnering Agreement on the Future Submarine, Ai Groups' Kate Louis outlines the importance of the US defence industrial base review for Australia, new coating technology halves the rate of biofouling on RAN ships, a report calls for more agile defence procurement processes, RUAG Australia receives its first order for a mobile 'cold spray' unit, and EPE trials an improvised explosive detector in Darwin.
Lastly, forms for this year's Top 40 Defence Contractors survey are available now (due Nov 16), as well as Expressions of Interest for next year's Essington Lewis Awards (due Nov 23). Please contact Katherine Ziesing for Top 40 forms and Awards Coordinator Jess Havard for Essington Lewis Awards enquiries.
