This move will save us money on rent and infrastructure and will allow our staff to more effectively provide support to you from a central location within our region. Important Changes to the RACGP PLAN Activity

In late September 2018, the RACGP Council decided that the PLAN activity (which was previously identified as the mandatory Quality Improvement (QI) activity for this triennium), will become an optional activity and can be replaced by any other Category 1 QI activity.

POLAR Training by Outcome Health

Shane Lowe of Outcome Health will be conducting training for the POLAR (Population Level Analysis and Reporting) GP tool on Monday 22 October, 7.00 pm - 9.00 pm at the CESPHN office at Mascot. The training will focus on POLAR overview, using POLAR to improve practice quality of data, maximising Practice Incentive Payments, improving clinical management of patients and identifying gaps on enhancing practice business outcomes.

Cervical screening in the Rockdale and Kogarah areas

GPs are reminded that Family Planning NSW provides free cervical screening for women at the Rockdale Community Health Centre (16/18 King St, Rockdale NSW 2216) every Thursday and Friday. Please use the referral form. Alternatively, women can present to the clinic without a GP referral and will be offered the next available appointment.

Sydney Queer Muslims have made available a video recording of their Cultural Sensitivity Workshop that was held in July at Sydney University with presentations by IImam Muhsin Hendricks and psychologist Sekneh Beckett.The Workshop ‘Understanding your LGBT+ Muslim Client’ provides theological context to the issues facing Queer Muslims for GPs, community organisations, counselors, and psychologists working with LGBTI people of Muslim background.

Mentoring Opportunity in 2019 - RPAH Junior Doctor Mentoring Program

Junior doctors face many stressors including work-life balance, lack of support by senior staff, uncertainties in relation to career paths and training, and a heavy workload. A new program has been launched to support JMOs by aiding the development of strong relationships between junior doctors and their more senior colleagues, as well as providing them with networking opportunities.

Event: Active Learning Module in Obesity and Cancer

Obesity is increasingly recognised as both an important risk factor form many cancers and a long term problem for many cancer survivors. This ALM will provide GPs with up to date information and skills to manage this problem in general practice. The RACGP accredited Category 1 activity is worth 40 points and will be held on Saturday November 3 at the Lowy Cancer Research Centre. The sessions are designed to be interactive in covering both obesity as a risk factor for cancer and as a complicating factor in the long term management of cancer and cancer survivors.

Event: Pre-eclampsia and high blood pressure in pregnancy

GPs are increasingly aware of the lifelong risks faced by women who have suffered pre-eclampsia in pregnancy. The Heart Foundation is sponsoring a patient education forum on the subject at the Charles Perkins Centre, on the RPAH campus, which is free, and the first of its kind. The event will be held on Tuesday 16 October and is free for women and their families to attend. It will provide participants the opportunity to give feedback and ask questions from leading physicians in this area - let your patients know!

New Exercise programs to combat depression and anxiety

Mood Active are running a new eight-week program starting in late September at Camperdown. Programs also run at Kingsford and Surry Hills. They run small group classes (maximum of six people), with personal client support and trainers who care. Choose from cardio tennis, yoga and gym circuit classes. Low cost places of $15 per week are available for a limited time if you join by 31 October 2018!

Following Central and Eastern Sydney PHN's recent move to Mascot, the CESPHN CPD program will continue to operate uninterrupted across the region. We will be using a number of venues around the St George and Inner West areas in place of the previous Ashfield and Kogarah office locations. CPD venues we will be using include:
