So, we made it - and now we're in the full throes of 2021; a year I'd like to optimistically call the Year of Deliberate Action.
In 2020, we had little choice but to confront society's immediate crises. With our backs against the wall, companies had to change with their customers. And many businesses went beyond an operational response, to actually create new value for people – turning our challenges into incubators for market-led innovation and differentiation.
But we needn’t – and shouldn’t – wait for our next crisis to seize this shared value approach. And at SVP, we’re encouraged by the groundswell of companies realising this, and looking to be more proactive and intentional in how they use business to address ‘slower’ societal problems, like climate change. There’s now less debate around why we should do this, and more of a focus on how to get going.
This understanding is informing our strategy for 2021 from the ground up, and we’re excited to launch two new training programs – aimed at catering to the varied priorities and levels of shared value knowledge within the community. Today, we introduce our new Shared Value Masterclasses; a practical workshop series covering shared value theory, innovation, partnerships and measurement, and the Purpose Playbook Learning Cohorts (more below).
But whilst new learnings are important, we also recognise that it’s helpful to look back when looking ahead. And so we’ve collated the insights of shared value leaders (with huge thanks) as they reflect on the great reminders of 2020. Meanwhile, I tackle the task of predicting what’s to come in 2021; through a lens of hope and enthusiasm around our quickening purpose momentum.
Finally, as I mark three months as SVP CEO, I again invite you to reach out to introduce yourself and/or share any ideas/feedback at sdownie@sharedvalue.org.au. Collaboration is critical to this mission. And it’s going to take a collective effort to cement this foothold for shared value in corporate strategy.
Now is our moment. Let’s push on this open door together - at full force.
