International Student Guardians
Season's Greetings
This newsletter is devoted to the success stories of 2019 and to offer our season’s greetings to all our students, parents, families, agents & friends.

What a successful year we have had! Starting the year with the announcement of our successful AEGIS re-accreditation, entering into collaborations with new education agents and consultancy organisations and improving internal procedures and administrative functions, using some of the latest IT resources available to us!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff members, local co-ordinators, drivers and homestay host families for their hard work and commitment in helping us achieve yet another successful year.
2019 Re-accreditation Succes
AEGIS is the only independent body in the UK that puts guardianship organisations through a rigorous inspection process.

This means that Academic Guardians UK as an AEGIS accredited guardianship organisation has passed a full inspection of our care of students and business practices, so parents can be sure that their child(ren) will be in safe in our hands.
What that means
- As the child’s guardian we will act on parent’s behalf, attending meetings with school staff and letting them know what is discussed.

- We will help the child(ren) adapt to their new surroundings and school regulations, taking an active part in their school life.

- As guardians we can also book flights, arrange transport from the school or airport at the beginning and end of all holiday periods.

- Crucially, we are also available to talk 24 hours a day in case of emergency.
Coming to a school near you!
During the year, as well as visits from the local coordinators, our director Andrew Kettle makes it his mission to visit all our students in their respective schools and universities! You can follow his progress on twitter by clicking the link below:
Academic UK
Welcome and bon voyage!

Whilst we also celebrated lots of new student arrivals in 2019, we are always saying goodbye to many existing students, some of whom we have known for over 5 years and as is always, will be dearly missed. A big thank you to the students and parents who contacted us with their grades and what university they will be attending. We wish all our departing students the very best as they continue their education journey and offer a gentle reminder that we're always here to listen and help, even if it's only to let us know how you’re getting on!

Staff Update

Many of you will know that one of our account managers Kelsey has now welcomed a new member to her family and is currently on maternity leave. We hope she is enjoying the arrival of her new baby boy and look forward to her re-joining the team in mid-June. In the interim we would like to thank Louise, Kelly and Gabrielle who have all been instrumental with assisting parents and students with everything from homestays to hockey sticks! We would like to welcome a new member of staff to the team – Sylvia. Who brings with her a 5-star customer service 10-year background and wants to input her experience and knowledge. To date her biggest challenge has been to learn all the names of the students under our care and each individual bespoke requirement.
Homestay Hosts
Good reasons to be one
We encourage the notion that hosting an international student is a rewarding and fun experience for both student and homestay host families. It enables different cultures to be brought together giving each the opportunity to learn and understand a little more about the world we live in and develop from their interaction with each other, whilst being financially compensated for their efforts.
This is one of many comments received from one of our homestay hosts:
We thoroughly enjoy having our students, as a family we have learnt so much from them. The children enjoy repeating the few words that they now know in Cantonese, Russian and Thai and I have been taught how to cook ‘Real’ Chinese food. We have learnt so much about different cultures we look forward to visiting all the countries one day 😊.
