Family abuse and violence - Are you ready to respond?
The RACGP Professional Development Program via GP Learning has just released a series of online learning modules dealing with: Family Abuse and Violence - Know how to respond when you suspect violence. Research shows that one in four women in Australia has experienced abuse and violence by their partner, boyfriend or date with domestic or intimate partner violence the leading risk factor contributing to poor health in Australian women aged 18–44. GPs are in a key position to help individuals affected by sexual assault, and domestic and family violence. Click here to read more
Maternal health GP education program 2018
The Maternal Health GP Education Program for 2018 is available here. GPs are invited to attend any educational event, regardless of the ANSC program in which they primarily participate. Attendance at any activity will accrue ANSC points (i.e if you participate in the RPA/ Canterbury ANSC program, you can attend a RHW event to accrue ANSC points).
"Having a Baby" book
"Having a Baby" is a NSW Health resource available for all women who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. It has a strong focus on healthy pregnancies and normal birth, however, it also provides information and advice when things do not go to plan. It explains the options for pregnancy and birth care in NSW and promotes informed choices for pregnant women. All women attending a public maternity facility are provided with a copy of this book. It is also available as an e-copy to download from the NSW Health website. It is has been translated
into 22 different languages including Arabic, Bengali, Chinese and Vietnamese which can be downloaded from NSW Health website.
Child development and education resources
Have you ever wondered where you can find parenting resources and information for your patients? Resourcing Parents provides parenting education/information to parents and carers of children aged 0-18 years. The site is funded by the NSW government to support families by providing access to parenting programs and resources. The site provides child development and parenting information in a number of languages, offers specific resources for the aboriginal community and is the home to the Love, Talk, Sing, Read, Play site.
Translated versions of Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS)
Are you aware that there is a validated translated version of the EPDS available in a variety of languages including Chinese, Arabic, Vietnamese and Punjabi? This resource can be accessed on each hospital’s section of the CESPHN website: RPAH/Canterbury
