JUNE- GETTING OUTDOORS

June signals the beginning of great things: summer break for the family, carnivals, parades, farmers markets, and all things outdoors! This month, I wanted to share some of my favorite local outdoor activities with you. Salt Lake City is home to countless hikes and outdoor experiences that are not only beautiful, but right in our own backyard.

We are already halfway through 2019, and it is time to get out and enjoy everything the city has to offer. Get out and do something new this month.

FAVORITE HIKES FROM NEIGHBORHOODS

(Image via kuhl.com)

If you live in Salt Lake, chances are there is a hike right outside your front door. Here are some of the favorite hikes around your area that may be close to your neighborhood!

Parrish Creek Trail: Parrish Creek Trail is a 8.7 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Centerville, Utah that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April until September. Dogs and horses are also able to use this trail. Click here for more information on this trail.

Ensign Peak: This little peak is the perfect way to view the city. Just don't do it in the heat of the day or you will roast. Take a picnic and watch the sunset. Ensign Peak is at the north end of the Salt Lake Valley, above the State Capitol building. Click here for more information on this trail.

The Avenues: Avenues Twin Peaks is a very popular evening hike. Watching the sunset over the city, Wasatch Mountains, and foothills is magical! At about 4 miles, it is a reasonable distance to get in after work on a summer evening before the sunsets. The trailhead is at the top of the Avenues neighborhood in Salt Lake at the Terrace Hills Trailhead. Click here for more information on this trail.

Olympus Cove, Bonneville Shoreline Trail: Olympus Cove to Hughes Canyon is a 4.6 mile lightly trafficked point-to-point trail located near Salt Lake City that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail. Click here for more information on this trail.

St. Mary's: The Living Room: Get out of your living room and onto the Living Room hike that’s near Red Butte Garden and the Natural History Museum of Utah. A locals’ favorite, particularly college kids, this moderate Salt Lake hike covers four miles round trip and takes you on a trail up to the stacked stones, which are shaped like couches and kind of resemble a living room (hence the name). Trust me, this Living Room is way better than yours at home.

1 tsp pure Vanilla extract

1/3 cup Almond Milk Unsweetened
