Click here Vol 22 No 19 09 February 2017 Fundraising for the Friends of St Luke'sCongratulations to all Form 4 pupils and their teachers who took part in this year's Helen Kane Memorial Charity Challenge and managed to raise a staggering €2,346 for The Friends of St Luke's. Well done to all involved. National Concert Hall ExcursionLast week pupils from The High School enjoyed an annual excursion to the National Concert Hall to hear the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the internationally-praised music educationalist Paul Rissmann, and conductor Gavin Maloney present bespoke guides to works on the Junior and Leaving Certificate music syllabi. For Leaving Certificate music pupils the focus was on Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture while for Junior Certificate pupils the focus was on a selection of set and selected choice works/excerpts, including examples of theme and variations, film music, and a concert overture. Business Enterprise at HSDForm 4 Business Enterprise pupils have been busy making, marketing, and selling their fine High School drawstring bags which have proved to be hugely popular with pupils and teachers alike and are a 'must have' fashion accessory for incoming pupils too! Pupils have learned a great deal about product design, development, and sales during the course of this business endeavour. Well done to our entrepreneurial pupils who have wholeheartedly embraced this project. Each basic bag costs just €3 and can still be ordered from Mr Fitzpatrick's Form 4 class at break or lunch time. One Act PlayPupils from The High School will perform their One Act Play 'Last Class on Monday' at the drama festival at St Andrew's College, Booterstown on 16 February 2017. All are welcome to attend. Tickets are available on the door - €5 for adults, €3 for students. We hope to see you there! After School SwimmingThe best of luck to our High School swimmers who are busily preparing for their annual Habitat for Humanity fundraiser. Pupils from The High School meet every Tuesday evening at Terenure College pool for Junior and Senior swimming - Juniors from 6.00-6.45 pm and Seniors between 6.45-7.30 pm. It is a lot of fun and pupils need only bring swimming hats and goggles to attend. There is no charge. Locker UpgradeThe school is planning to replace and upgrade pupil lockers over the half term break. This is a significant undertaking and in order to facilitate the process pupils must empty their lockers of all contents and bring all personal belongings home by the beginning of half term break on Friday 17 February. We have asked Form 3 and 6 pupils to take home all textbooks, sports bags, and belongings by Friday 3 February. They may use their lockers to store jackets and daily revision material over the examination period but other school-related books and equipment will not be required and should remain at home. The school cannot accept any responsibility for pupil belongings left on site over the holiday period. We are all looking forward to seeing the new lockers in place when we return after half term break! Ireland Rugby Sevens SuccessCongratulations to Emma Murphy (HSD, 2008-14) who was selected for the Ireland Women Sevens Squad which has reached the quarter-finals of the World Rugby Women's Sevens Series tournament for the first time. We wish our past pupil every success as she competes for further honours at international level. Dates for your Diary
