Engaging mothers and children affected by family violence - This webinar aims to gain insights into practice that will assist you to engage with mothers and children affected by family and domestic violence including best practice models to inform and improve early intervention and prevention of children's mental health. Attitudes of health professionals to older person health assessments Dr Eleanor Mitchell and Mr Sai Ram Ramisetty from Monash University are conducting research into the attitudes of health professionals to older person health assessments (Ethics Approval 20704). You are invited to participate if you are a general practitioner or practice nurse who has or could potentially conduct Medicare-funded older person health assessments. The online survey should take 5-10 minutes to complete and participation is voluntary. Research: People who regularly use methamphetamine There is increasing evidence of harm from regular use of methamphetamine. We know that people who regularly use methamphetamine (PWRUM) tend to seek help from their GP before established drug treatment centres but also use the emergency department and acute mental health services more frequently than the general population. We are aiming to identify the barriers and enables PWRUM face when accessing structured care in the GP setting through interviews with both GPs and PWRUM. Attitudes to ageing study This study from the University of Sydney aims to understand how individuals – the general public and health care clinicians - conceptualise ageing and how healthy ageing can be facilitated as a discrete community goal. The online questionnaire is based on Reactions to Ageing Scale (Gething, 1994). Share your stories of implementing preventive care in your practice The Green book resources page highlights the practical case studies and stories that Australian general practices have undertaken to successfully implement preventive activities for their practice population. On an ongoing basis, the RACGP would like to continue to showcase the creative and innovative initiatives that general practices are undertaking to improve the health of Australians. They are encouraging all members of the general practice team, and those to work with general practices, to share tips and stories of preventive activities you have implemented in your clinic. To submit your case study, please fill in the web form and describe the quality improvement activities you have undertaken to support preventive care. Case studies and stories will be featured on the RAGP website and social media channels. Finding the Missing Millions World Hepatitis Day 2019 calls for all primary care providers to be proactive in their vital role in viral hepatitis elimination in Australia. With effective viral hepatitis treatments available to help manage hepatitis B and cure hepatitis C, Australia is leading the way to a future without viral hepatitis. With close to half a million Australians living with chronic hepatitis B and C, it is likely there is someone who attends your practice living with hepatitis. Unsure where to start? Consider accessing HealthPathways South Eastern Sydney or HealthPathways Sydney, a free web-based clinical information platform to support GPs in their assessment and management of patients at the point of care. GP Exercise Referral Scheme GPs in Sutherland can refer patients living with chronic disease to the GP Exercise Referral Scheme. This program is specifically designed for people to prevent or manage certain medical conditions, such as osteoporosis, cardiac or respiratory issues, and musculoskeletal conditions. Be Medicinewise Week 2019 The ninth annual Be Medicinewise Week is encouraging Australians to get to know the language of medicines. Understanding and communicating about medicines is key to getting the most out of them, safely. Language guidelines for chronic pain To mark Pain Awareness Week this week, Minister for Health, Greg Hunt released 'Talking About Pain: language guidelines for chronic pain' developed primarily by consumers to promote the use of more positive and less stigmatising language when talking or writing about pain and people living with pain conditions. Launch: Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care invites you to the online launch of the second edition of the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights which will be live-streamed across Australia on 8 August 2019, commencing at 1.00 pm (AEST). Luke Escombe, award-winning singer-songwriter, comedian and health advocate will be hosting the event and will be joined by a range of speakers from the world of health. Redkite and Coles Dare to Dream Scholarships now open! The Redkite and Coles Dare to Dream Scholarships empower young people aged 15 to 24 years to pursue their education, career or life goals that have been put on hold for cancer. The grant, which is made possible by funding from Coles, has supported 234 young people in Australia over the last six years, helping them to achieve their dreams and get their lives back on track following their diagnosis. In addition to the scholarships, Redkite supported 36 families in central and eastern Sydney last year through education and career support, and 27 with education grants, ensuring that each and every person in central and eastern Sydney has the opportunity to live their best possible life - now and into the future. As of 17 July, we have updated our event registration process. Users can now register for events using two of the three identifiers - email address, mobile number or member number. This means that if you do not remember your member number, you can still register with the two other identifiers. You can also enter your mobile number to receive an SMS with your member number. Each event will be identified as a member-only event or open event. If an event is for members only, you will be prompted to either become a member or pay the event fee.
