Shortland Grants Newsletter - May

 

Welcome to the May edition of my Community Grants Newsletter.

From community grants to sports grants all with the emphasis on strengthening the electorate of Shortland and being involved.

Please share this information around and be wary of the closing dates as a number of the grants in this newsletter require applications to be submitted in the coming days.

Community Building Partnership Grants

Amount: $330,000
Closing Date: 12 June 2020
Funding Provider: NSW Government  
Purpose: To undertake projects that will benefit our local community through the building or improvement of facilities to deliver positive social, recreational or environmental outcomes.

Incorporated not-for-profit community organisations and local councils are eligible to apply for grants between $2,500 and $330,000. The average grant awarded is around $20,000.

NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards are now open!

Closing Date: 3 July 2020
Funding Provider: NSW Government  
Purpose: To recognise the outstanding work of volunteers in every region across NSW.

Award Categories:

  • Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Adult Volunteer of the Year
  • Senior Volunteer of the Year
  • Volunteer Team of the Year
  • Corporate Volunteer of the Year (Individual)
  • Corporate Volunteer Team of the Year

 2020 Resilience Fund

Amount: $10,000 for individuals and groups and up to $20,000 for organisations.
Closing Date: 28 May 2020
Funding Provider: NSW Government
Purpose: To provide emergency relief to support the livelihoods, practices and operations of Australian artists, groups and organisations during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

There are three streams you can apply for: 

  • Survive - Small grants for individuals, groups and organisations to offset or recoup money lost due to cancelled activity.
  • Adapt - Grants for individuals, groups and organisations to adapt their arts practices and explore new ways of working.
  • Create - Grants for individuals, groups and organisations to continue to create artistic work and/or develop creative responses in this time of disruption.

Feed Appeal Community Grants

Amount: $50,000
Closing Date: 22 May 2020
Funding Provider: Feed Appeal
Purpose: To improve the lives of people that are experiencing hunger and/or food insecurity in the local community.

The Feed Appeal grants program supports community charities that deliver food relief programs. Applications must be for projects that will improve the lives of people that are experiencing hunger and/or food insecurity in the local community.

St. George Foundation COVID-19 Emergency Relief Funding

Amount: $5000
Closing Date: Ongoing until otherwise notified.
Funding Provider: St.George Foundation
Purpose: To provide emergency payments for approved charities who are experiencing immediate funding pressures as a result of COVID-19.

Haywire Youth Innovation Grant

Amount: $100,000 to help six groups make their innovative ideas a reality
Closing Date: 26 May 2020 
Funding Provider: The Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal (FRRR)
Purpose: To help communities take action on ideas generated by young Australians.

If you think you could spark positive change in your community, apply for up to $10,000 to kick-start the project in your area.

Local Sporting Champions Program

Amount: $500-$700
Closing Date for this round: 30 June 2020
Funding Provider: Australian Institute of Sport
Purpose: To help our junior sport stars meet the costs of participation at eligible sporting competitions.

The Local Sporting Champions program is an initiative designed to help young athletes realise their sporting dreams and compete in their sporting competitions. Local junior athletes turning 12 to 18 years of age in the same calendar year as the nominated sporting championship can apply for a grant to cover the cost of:

  • travel
  • accommodation
  • uniforms
  • equipment

Active Kids Rebate program

Amount: $100 vouchers for two separate school-enrolled children
Closing Date: 31 December 2020
Funding Provider: NSW Office of Sport
Purpose: Families can now access two separate $100 vouchers for each school-enrolled child, per calendar year, as a voucher to reduce the cost of sport registration or membership for after-school, weekend and structured fitness or physical activity.

Creative Kids program

Amount: $100 vouchers for two separate school-enrolled children
Closing Date: 31 December 2020
Funding Provider: NSW Office of Sport
Purpose: To make it easier for school-aged children and young people to get involved in creative and cultural activities.

Vouchers can be used to contribute to registration, participation and tuition costs for performing arts, visual arts, coding, languages, literature, music and other creative and cultural activities, including Aboriginal cultural experiences

Awesome Lake Mac

Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: no closing date
Funding Provider: Lake Macquarie City Council
Purpose: To benefit the Lake Macquarie community

Do you have a brilliant idea for making Lake Macquarie a little more awesome?

Each month, Awesome Lake Mac will award one person a $1,000 grant, at a pitch event held at Canon Food Bar Espresso, Warners Bay.

LMCC - Grants and funding assistance

Lake Macquarie City Council provides a range of financial assistance programs to support community groups and organisations that add social, economic or environmental benefits to our City.

  • Event and festival funding - up to $2,000
  • Donations and financial assistance - up to $2,000

Delta Electricity – Sponsorship & Donations

Amount: Unknown
Closing Date: no closing date
Funding Provider: Delta Electricity
Purpose: This program aims to help improve local parks for families and people with disabilities and sponsor community events. It also provides support for Landcare and other environmental work and helps many local organisation that must be geographically located in the regional areas where Delta Electricity Power Stations operate. Delta’s Vales Point and Munmorah power stations are located in the Central Coast and Lake Macquarie region.

ClubGRANTS

Amount: Varied

Purpose: To fund thousands of charities, sporting teams and community groups.

Copyright Agency Cultural - Organisation

Amount: $5,000 to $20,000 per project/year
Closing Date: 12 June 2020
Funding Provider: Copyright Agency
Purpose: To offer grants to leading organisations for projects that deliver exceptional opportunities for Australian writers, journalists, editors, English and literacy teachers, visual artists and key industry stakeholders in the writing, publishing, education, and visual arts sectors.

Purpose: To support a range of charitable organisations and projects each year through Australian registered charitable organisations.

The Catalyst Fund

Amount: $2,500–$15,000
Closing Date: Ongoing
Funding Provider: Roddenberry Foundation
Purpose:  Is geared towards small and/or early-stage ideas and projects that need a capital infusion to launch or prove viability. Catalyst awardees are typically piloting a program, venturing into new territory, on the cusp of launching, or pivoting in a new direction.

Hardcourts Foundation

Amount: $5,000

Funding Provider: Hardcourts Foundation
Purpose:  No matter the size of your organisation, the Harcourts Foundation not only gives back to those affected by large scale cataclysmic disasters but also to charitable community organisations. In addition, they provide assistance to individuals in need.

Matana Foundation

Amount: $1,000 to $10,000

Funding Provider: Matana Foundation
Purpose:  To provide assistance to disadvantaged young people in Australia in order to give them the opportunity to reach their full educational and social potential.

Tackling Tough Times Together (TTTT)

Amount: Tier 1 $20,000, Tier 2 $20,000
Closing Date: Round 17 closes 28 May 2020.
Funding Provider: Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal
Purpose: To help communities access the resources they need to support one another through the ongoing effects of the drought.

Grants are available for a broad range of grassroots, community-led initiatives that directly and clearly benefit local communities. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis and assessed quarterly. Projects led by local communities will be given strong preference.

Survive grants

Amount: Individuals and groups up to $2,000, organisations up to $5,000.
Closing Date: 28 May 2020
Funding Provider: Australia Council for the Arts
Purpose: Survive grants are available to individuals, groups and organisations to offset or recoup money lost due to cancelled activity. These grants provide stop-gap funding until relief offered by other funding agencies, government departments and support services can be accessed.

Who can apply:

  • Individuals, groups and organisations.
  • Individuals can apply for themselves or on behalf of a group.
  • Australian organisations that create artistic work or provide a service to the arts sector can apply.

National Carers Week grant

Amount: $300
Closing Date: 22 June 2020
Funding Provider: NSW Department of Communities and Justice
Purpose: To help carer support groups and organisations across NSW put on an activity or event, online or in person, to acknowledge family and friend carers in their local community.

While it is hoped that events and activities may be able to go ahead by October 2020, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, funding will be provided to support and celebrate carers through a range of approaches including events or activities either online or in person.

Create NSW COVID-19 Support for Small-Medium Arts & Screen Sector

Amount: $500 to $5,000
Closing Date: 30 June 2020
Funding Provider: Create NSW Art, Screen, Culture
Purpose: To support small to medium arts, screen and cultural organisations impacted by COVID-19, Create NSW is implementing a number of measures.

This includes accommodation assistance and new support for creatives to engage with online platforms. In addition, there is a suite of initiatives that provide employment and development opportunities, and audience engagement and skill-sharing for arts, screen and cultural organisations and individuals across the State.

Central Coast Council - Working Together Staying Strong Funding Support Program

Amount: $1,000 to $10,000
Closing Date: 30 September 2020
Funding Provider: Central Coast Council
Purpose: To assist Central Coast community groups and organisations to deliver critical support services to vulnerable and at-risk groups in response to the COVID -19 pandemic, particularly those with projects that directly support the physical health and mental well-being, social connection and safety of vulnerable and at-risk groups.

For example:

  • Food hamper preparation and delivery
  • Swags for rough sleepers
  • Mental health support
  • Counselling services
  • Organisational volunteer support
  • Helping people get around (e.g. transport support)
  • Small equipment purchases (e.g. to facilitate education, telehealth etc.)

Youngcare's At Home Care grant

Amount: $10,000
Closing Date: 24 June 2020
Funding Provider: Youngcare
Purpose: To provide funding for equipment, home modifications and essential support/respite that is unable to be funded through other means (eg. NDIS). This funding is to both enhance the quality of life for young people with high physical care needs and assist them to remain living in their own home with loved ones.

Budget Direct Sponsorship Program

Amount: $1,000 to $5,000
Closing Date: 31 May 2020
Funding Provider: Budget Direct
Purpose: Budget Direct will consider your sponsorship request whether you’re a leader in your field or a grassroots organisation, as long as you want to make meaningful improvements to the lives of Australians.

Budget Direct is open to supporting organisations that:

  • Provide a service or other benefit for the community, on either a local or state basis
  • Promote health, education, and wellbeing in their communities, sporting clubs included
  • Provide assistance and care for Australians in need
  • Encourage healthy lifestyles
