HSD League Table Success

We are delighted that The Irish Times has ranked The High School as one of the top 3 mixed feeder schools in Ireland making it the leading school in its sector in 2017.  This follows a recent ranking by The Sunday Times which classified The High School as one of the top 5 mixed fee-paying schools in Ireland.  The High School was also ranked among the top performing fee-paying schools in Ireland by The Sunday Independent making it once again the leading school in its sector in 2018.  There have been significant improvements in examination performance at The High School in recent years which reflects the professional excellence of our teaching staff, the determination and hard work of pupils, and the dedicated support of parents and guardians.  I should like to congratulate all our pupils on their outstanding results and to thank my colleagues who have worked tirelessly on their behalf throughout their time at The High School.
Mr G A Forrest
Principal

Ski Trip

Over the half-term break, pupils from Form 2 enjoyed several days of wonderful skiing in Andorra, a principality located in the eastern Pyrenees mountains.  They spent their days on the slopes and enjoyed social activities in the evening.  Trained instructors guided beginners and experienced skiers alike helping the hours to fly by.

Additional activites involved a visit to Barcelona Stadium, shopping in Andorra, a visit to a swimming pool and spa, and a disco.  It was a very successful, fun-filled trip.

Round the World Sailing

This High School past pupil is setting out to become the first Irishman to sail solo around the world non-stop, using no modern technology.

Taking part in the Golden Globe Race in July 2018, Gregor McGuckin (HSD, 1999-2005) aged 31, will set sail from Les Sables D’Olonne, France in an attempt to survive 270 days alone at sea competing against 24 other sailors using just a compass, the moon and stars to guide him around the world.  He will have food for nine months on board and will have to find ways to catch rainwater to drink.   We wish Gregor every success in his courageous endeavours.

TCD Sports Scholarship

Congratulations to past pupils Ailish Long (HSD, 2009-2015) and Jenny Long (HSD, 2007-2013) who are current recipients of the 2017/18 Sports Scholarship at Trinity College Dublin.  The scholarship is awarded to a small number of student-athletes for their outstanding sporting achievements within their chosen sport while studying a full-time bachelor degree course.

'Trinity College is extremely proud of these individuals and are delighted to share their sporting accomplishments while attending Trinity.  Managing high level competition and demanding coursework is a challenge, and one which they have proven successful in. Ailish is in her third year studying a Bachelor of Arts in Business, Economics and Social Studies.  Ailish is a pivotal player in Trinity ladies league win and promotion from Division 1 to the EYHL (Ernst & Young Hockey League) in 2017 and has represented Ireland in her underage years and is hopeful to break into the Senior scene soon.  Jenny is in her fifth year studying a Bachelor of Arts in Mechanical Engineering.  Jenny is a previous captain of the Trinity Ladies team and enjoys top player status within the team.'

Attention Parents!

We recently started the process of selecting a panel of interviewers for this year's  Mock Interviews Evening for Form 5 pupils at The High School
and we want to open our panel to more volunteers.
The Mock Interviews for Form 5 take place this year on the evening of Tuesday 17 April.  The time commitment is 6.00–9.00 pm.

Interviewers will be greeted upon arrival by a member of staff and
issued a folder containing the following: pupil's name, their CV and personal statement (along with
sample interview questions), a feedback sheet for each pupil, and an evaluation sheet for the evening.
Over a hot dinner each interviewer will have the opportunity to read through the contents of the
folder and prepare themselves for the evening. If you are interested in being involved, please email Ms Connolly - connollyv@highschool.ie - giving
your area of expertise. We will be in contact with further details over the coming months.  We look forward to hearing from you.
Ms V Connolly
