Issue No. 1 March 2017 We’re excited to be bringing you the 67th annual NZ Open Dance Championships. It’s at the same great venue, with the same awesome sound and lighting crew, and the same amazing DanceSport Live scrutineering services. Responding to your feedbackWe’re always looking for ways to improve this event. Together with the NZ Federation of Dance Teachers executive, we’ve been considering the feedback we received from dancers and their coaches at the end of last year’s championships. There were some really positive comments about the overall event. But people also told us the programme was too tight and there wasn’t enough time for each event. We can’t extend the number of days over which the event runs. So we’ve had to make some tough calls around the syllabus to create time in the programme. Open dance event changesAll juvenile, junior and youth open events have been removed from the syllabus. The Adult 10 Dance event has also been removed. However, a winner will be selected from those who dance in both the Level 5 Latin and Level 5 Ballroom events. In other words, the highest placed couple across these two events will be the 10 Dance champion. If you’re a Masters 1 or Masters 2 dancer, you will now need to choose one age division to compete in. There will be a combined Open Masters 1 and 2 event in all three styles, which will be open to all masters competitors. Syllabus of eventsAn updated syllabus of events – including the days on which events will run – has now been uploaded to the website.
