No images? Click here Industry Update - Covid19 #5Destination Coromandel have heard from many locals in the past week. The shock of the self-isolation ruling and effective border closure has been swift and harsh, yet the industry response has been equally swift. People are quickly identifying ways they can adapt their businesses to the evolving reality, to get through this phenomenal challenge. Destination Coromandel will do all we can to support our local industry. Lynette Dey, our International Marketing Manager is now your key contact on our team to help navigate the immediate future. And please contact any of the team at any stage. The key messages remain: - Retain visitor contacts from cancelled bookings for the future. If it isn’t already, this should become standard practice to help inform your research and marketing thereafter. - Visit the government website to understand the possibilities for government support (Lynette may be of some assistance if needed). - Contact your bank
The homepage of www.thecoromandel.com directs visitors to official information and the local industry to our Covid-19 updates. Domestic PromotionWe understand the desire to reach out now to our loyal domestic market to help your business and the local economy. However as anticipated earlier in the week, MBIE have now recommended that promoting domestic tourism is “not on the agenda.” We always assess the market psyche and the likelihood of gaining market attention prior to spending marketing dollars. We concluded that the current time is not appropriate. We understand that The Coromandel remains an attractive escape for our drive market and we will be ready to act when they are ready to travel again. The domestic market will be the first to be mobilised when appropriate. For now the health and safety of New Zealanders and international guests still visiting remains the priority.
Support LocalIn the meantime we will use our digital channels such as Facebook, Instagram and our e-newsletter to keep our fanbase (that includes Thames Coromandel and Hauraki District residents) informed of what’s going on in The Coromandel. Let us know how you are adapting to keep going, or if you are working on new projects to be ready for the time when travel resumes.
i-SITESThe Thames and Whitianga i-SITEs remain open. They are encouraging visitors to practice ‘physical distancing’ to minimise health risks (see images below).
Air Travel for International Visitors Leaving New ZealandWhile our border is closed visitors can still leave New Zealand. It is recommended that travellers: - Do not turn up at the airport to organise their departure - Visit a travel agent to organise flights, even if travel was not originally planned through them - Do not go to the airport earlier than the required time for departure We will endeavour to keep future communications relevant and to a minimum. Please do not hesitate to contact Destination Coromandel if you have any queries, concerns or suggestions.
