Vinnie Murray Cup

This week the school turned out en masse to sing The High School songs and cheer on our Senior Cup Team who faced Temple Carrig School in the semi-final of the Vinnie Murray Cup.  From the first moments we could see that the teams were well-matched and even though the opposition were first to score, The High School side was competitive throughout.  We continued to put pressure on our opponents' defence until we had secured two determined tries and a conversion, the first by prop Karo Otobo and the second by captain Sam Dunne, set-up beautifully by Jack Farrelly.  But the opposition slipped ahead as the minutes on the clock dwindled and suddenly we had lost our chance to move forward into the final.  And as our players stood proudly together on the pitch, the HSD supporters burst into song once more to show their appreciation for an excellent team effort and a thrilling game, chanting, 'We follow, we follow, we follow' and we headed home together with the song still ringing in our ears.

Father Godfrey Cup

Congratulations to The High School Junior Cup Team who defeated Temple Carrig School this week to win a place in the semi-final of the Father Godfrey Cup.  Despite our opponents taking a lead just moments into the game, HSD fought hard to maintain their advantage right up until the final whistle.  But The High School team was determined to win the day and they were not disappointed with skillful tries scored by Jack Barlow, Zak Hopkins, and David Odekunle.

Form 4 Cultural Excursion

Last week pupils from Form 4 enjoyed a cultural visit to two museums in Dublin city.  The first venue was the National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts and History at Collins Barracks.  Pupils were given a worksheet to complete which helped them to engege actively with the material on display.  The second museum was National Museum of Ireland - Archaeology where Irish artefacts and treasures from all over the world are kept in pristine condition for future generations.   Pupils were especially moved by the Kingship and Sacrifice
exhibition which offered pupils the opportunity to literally come face to face with the past. The Bog Bodies exhibition is based around the theory that human sacrifice and the deposition of the victims in bogs along tribal boundaries is related to sovereignty and kingship rituals during the Iron Age.  Pupils returned home, thoughtful and moved by all they had seen.  It was a very worthwhile visit.

Gala Concert

Congratulations to all our pupils, past and current, who performed at the Dublin Youth Orchestras' Annual
Gala Concert at National Concert Hall last weekend. We look forward to hearing our talented musicians perform at The High School 150th Anniversary Gala Concert at the NCH in May.

Junior C Hockey Win

Well done to the Junior C team who won their league hockey match this week against St Mary's College, Naas.  Well done, everyone.
