Coach's Corner

Hello Trainers!  We would like to introduce our Training Coach for the Eastern Mountain Region, Gwen Johnson

Hello Trainers,

My name is Gwen Johnson and I am the Training Coach for Bracken, Robertson, Montgomery, Menifee, Fleming, Bath, Letcher, Knott, Leslie, Perry, Breathitt, Lee, Owsley, and Wolfe Counties.  I have been a Credentialed Trainer since 2003 and although my present job does not include training Early Childhood staff, I enjoy working with Credentialed Trainers in trying to help them hone their skills to meet their full potential as an Early Childhood Trainer.

I obtained an Associate of Science at Southeast KCTCS then went on to complete my Bachelor in Psychology with a Human Service focus at Pikeville College. I then completed a Master of Arts at Goddard College in Plainfield, VT with a focus in Religion and Psychology.

I became a Professional Development Counselor in 2003 with LKLP Resource and Referral and in 2005 I became a UK employee with the same title of Professional Development Counselor. I became Training Coordinator with Eastern KY Child Care Coalition in 2012 and in July of 2014 I returned to UK as a Child Care Aware Training Coach.

I love the title coach because it defines what I do best. I am a helper and an encourager and I like finding resources for Early Childhood staff; for example, the Quality Assurance program.  This program helps credentialed trainers become the best possible trainers so that the children glean the benefits of the transfer of learning. This path of transfer is from trainer to staff to children. This is more important now than ever before with school readiness as the focus.

I enjoy my job and all it entails and I am always eager to help out in any way possible. I am honored to be featured in Trainer Talk.

Thanks!

Gwen

Hello, my name is Emma Davidson and I am a Child Care Health Consultant through the Kentucky River District Health Department in Hazard.  I am very excited about my job as a consultant.  I have hit the ground running with over 75 trainings in the areas of Perry, Leslie, Knott, Pike, Floyd, Letcher, Breathitt, Lee, Owsley, Wolfe, Magoffin, Clay, and Johnson Counties.

I have been learning and meeting some great people through my job as a Trainer and Consultant.

I completed my Masters from Union in Education with a Montessori Certification.  I have 24 years of experience as Montessori Director as well as starting a Montessori in Hazard.  I have enjoyed my years of experience in Early Childhood Education.  Through many years of working with children I feel we are working to build brighter futures  for our young children and  to get each and every child off to a good educational start.

I have recently attended the KY Trainers Institute, meeting trainers in many areas.  As trainers we are working together to meet high expectations for our children.  As a trainer, I feel I have many skills to learn to be a quality trainer.  I have been so lucky to have Gwen Johnson and Karen Baldwin as my Child Care Aware Training Coaches.  They have many years of experience as trainers and I hope to learn many skills from their guidance and assistance.  We are working together as educational leaders, coaches and trainers to assist our early child care professionals in many areas of need and to improve our quality of education to prepare our youngest for a start in school.

I look forward to working with many of you in the future.  Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you and your center.  As a credentialed trainer I will strive to do my best and learn all the skills necessary.

Thank you

Professional Growth for Trainers

Have you ever watched or listened to a TED Talk?  How would this be beneficial to you as a trainer?

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.

Searching a topic is so easy.

ECE-TRIS:

Kentucky Early Care and Education Trainers Credential:  Timeliness of Data Entry

Busy! Busy!! Busy!!!   That is all too often how we feel,  buried in paper work with just one more thing to do.

Entering training data in ECE TRIS is just as important as doing a quality training. Matter of fact, entering the data is the indication of a completed training. Many Early Care and Education Directors rely on ECE TRIS for documentation of completed training instead of certificates.  Timeliness in data entry is a requirement for KY ECE Credentialed Trainers and benefits professionals in the field.  These benefits include:

  • Accessing a quick reference of staff’s training clock hours.

  • Planning and implementing a Professional Development Plan for staff.

  • Supporting the new hire process when documenting required pre-service training.

Remember no job is completed until the paper work is finished. Take a minute and review the following Timeliness of Data Entry Policy Clarification http://chfs.ky.gov/NR/rdonlyres/9D0259D7-2F74-466A-B86C-9AE6D2EB5A6F/0/PolicyClarificationTimelinessofDataEntry.pdf.

Have questions or need help? Contact your Training Coach for assistance!  Thank you to all who have entered your data within the ten (10) calendar day time frame.
