Karangahake Gorge: explore the walkways along the river and through the forest with your guide from Kiwi Dundee Adventures

Kia Ora, and Hello!

We are delighted to see the return of so many international guests already, with bookings coming in for next year. Tourism businesses in The Coromandel fared pretty well over the past two years thanks to domestic travellers and regular visitors, but please do get in touch if you would like to renew some contacts.

We were disappointed to hear that the 360 Discovery Ferry is not able to reinstate its seasonal service from downtown Auckland to Coromandel Town this summer but we are fortunate that regional road services do connect.

One of our popular hiking trails, The Windows Walkway in the Karangahake Gorge (see image above) is closed for the next two months while Department of Conservation contractors repair the track. Other walks in the gorge including the Karangahake Gorge Historic Walkway are still open to explore this dramatic valley with its tunnels, bridges and relics of our goldmining past.

Wairua Lodge Rainforest Retreat

Hot Right Now

The rooms are beautiful, but what makes Wairua exceptional is what's outside. Explore the many walking tracks meandering through the bush relaxing along the way in a hammock by the stream. Throw in a night sky spa, outdoor bath and fire pit, and your relaxation retreat is achieved.

Whenuakura Wildlife Sanctuary

Giving back

The magical turquoise lagoon in the centre of this island is accessed by a sea cave on the offshore side. Your guides from Surfsup lead you safely through this narrow passage into the heart of the Wildlife Sanctuary. Every tour guest makes a contribution from their fee towards the preservation of this special place by local Māori kaitiaki (owners and guardians).

Take it easy

Our scenic roads take you through our small seaside towns, along the coast and through the hilly green heartland with great views along the way. But its not a highway, in fact, we do still have some single-lane bridges where you should be ready to stop and give way, even if you have the right of way.
Our Tip: Plan stops along the way and allow time for leisurely travel.

Forever good for your soul

Taking you to some new places:

Our Coromandel Brown Kiwi is relaxing in a tranquil place that feels like it's in the middle of the forest, but actually in the heart of one of our towns.

Clue: You don' need to dig in the sand here...
