We are Central / Issue 3
2016 continues to be an exciting year for the Polytechnic, our plans for the new Central Campus are on track, and we are working with our architect to ensure that all needs are covered and the new facility is future proofed for our planned growth.
You may have read in the Otago Daily Times, that we are looking to double our student numbers both domestically and internationally. We have a very good relationship with Education New Zealand and continue to host international education journalists and representatives from a variety of countries to help promote our region as a great destination to study in.
We are also very proud to have recently had one of our students invited to participate in the New Zealand Vietnam Culinary Collaboration, an initiative designed under the New Zealand - Vietnam strategic plan on education. You can read more about the teams success later in the newsletter.
Don't forget that we have a second-semester intake for many of our programmes, so if you're looking for a change in 2016 call in and see the team at Central, or visit our website - we may just have what you are looking for!

In the last couple of months, our cookery team has celebrated some great successes. Emma Waser, a Level 5 Diploma in Cookery student was chosen to join a four-member team to compete at the New Zealand - Vietnam Culinary Collaboration, that took place in Ho Chi Minh City last month.
Competing again other four member teams comprising of two students from New Zealand and two from Vietnam, Emma and her team took our the honours with their dish of braised lamb shanks with pickled cabbage, potato rosti and reduced jus.
"It was an amazing experience", said Emma. "We had to delve into each other's cultures to come up with our fusion menu. I have learned how important it is to mix it up - to use different flavours and borrow from each other traditions and cuisines".

Otago Polytechnic's Central Campus played host to the Southern Lights Salon Culinaire competition in May. Massive thanks go to the Central team who organised the event as well all those who entered including students and industry representatives from across the Southern Region. Huge congratulations to our Central cookery students who received 21 medals. Check out some of the photos above to see the quality of the entries produced this year.
The Central campus is looking forward to welcoming eight South Korean students to study at the campus in November 2016 through to May 2017. They are here studying English and Horticulture, combined with an element of work experience. The students are very much looking forward to their time learning and working in Central Otago and immersing themselves in our commuinity.
