No Images? Click here Heads up - new online consumer toolEECA is building a new online tool for consumers to compare the energy efficiency of products registered for sale in New Zealand. This is an exciting opportunity for suppliers to showcase their products because consumers will be able to filter by key product attributes such as size, as well as energy efficiency. We plan to launch the tool early next year and there will be a new streamlined process for suppliers to enter data about their new products to keep the tool up to date - we will contact you in the New Year about that process. (Image is a mock up and does not contain real data) Regs to NZ CabinetThe COAG Energy Council (including New Zealand's Minister of Energy and Resources Megan Woods) has decided to go ahead with updates to regulation for two items on the E3 prioritisation plan, Household Refrigeration and Freezers and Commercial Refrigeration Equipment. As a next step New Zealand Cabinet approval will be sought to amend regulation to include these updates. Proposed updates to regulation for Air Conditioners have yet to be considered by the COAG Energy Council. EECA will keep you informed on the status of these regulation updates and implementation time frames as work progresses.
Fan regs on the moveAll submissions on the recent E3 Fans Consultation RIS support MEPS for fan units in some form. As a first step, a Technical Working Group (TWG) has been formed to discuss and agree the scope of any proposed regulations and to work through a range of issues. Compliance uptake from Mike SmallAustralian check testing found Beko RF model GN162320X had incorrect Energy Rating Labels - this product has been re-labelled and Australian and New Zealand owners will be compensated. Hot water testing - check testing of New Zealand registered hot water cylinders is underway - we have purchased a range of popular makes from the market. Testing programme - we are in the process of developing a NZ registered product check testing programme for 2017-18. Meet Neven Senek - Standards and Regulations Delivery LeadI work with importers, manufacturers and retailers to help ensure the the smooth introduction of regulations. During my five years at EECA this has included working on technical, regulatory and product information to help industry meet requirements and to inform consumers. One of my main interests is the application of technology to drive lower energy consumption without compromising product performance or features. International updateTwelve countries from the Asia-Pacific, Europe and North America meet under the forum of the IEA 4E (Energy Efficient End-Use Equipment) to share information to support good policy development for energy efficient appliances and equipment. A recent invite to a forum meeting meant EECA learnt first-hand about developments in international work around appliance energy efficiency Standards.
