A profile of people with communication disability in Australia
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has released a new profile of “People with Communication Disability in Australia”. This is based off the 2015 Survey of Disability, Ageing and Carers. Some key findings include: There were 1.2 million Australians with communication disability in 2015. 38 per cent of people with communication disability were participating in the labour force compared with 80 per cent of people without communication disability.

Disability Advocacy Funding in NSW
Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Minister for Disability Services Ray Williams recently announced up to $26 million will be available for advocacy services until 2020. The funding will support people with disability to access these services during the transition to the NDIS and in the early stages of full Scheme. Ms Berejiklian said the NSW Government is committed to successfully transitioning supports and services to the NDIS for people with disability.

Carers NSW Carers Survey 2018
The biennial Carers NSW Carer Survey collects information about carers in NSW to provide an evidence base that informs the organisation’s direction, support and systemic advocacy for all carers across NSW. NDIS ILC National and Jurisdictional Grants Round Two update
The winners of the second round of National and Jurisdictional ILC grants have been announced, with a total of 147 projects funded over the next two years. For the national grants, just over $28 million has been awarded for 43 individual projects. Grants range in size from $173,000 to just below $2 million. All grants will focus on delivering against Key ILC Activity Area 1 – Provision of information, linkages and referrals.

NDIA CALD Strategy
The recently released Cultural and Linguistic Diversity Strategy 2018 (the Strategy) is the National Disability Insurance Agency’s public statement of commitment to working alongside people with disability from CALD backgrounds to achieve access to, and outcomes from, their NDIS Plan on an equal basis with the broader population.

CESPHN NDIS Education Sessions – June 2018
CESPHN is hosting a number of NDIS Education Sessions in June, with a focus on Mental Health and Psychosocial Disability in the context of the NDIS. Sessions run from 6.30pm to 9pm, and will be held in multiple venues including Ashfield, Kogarah and the eastern suburbs. Positive Action towards Career Engagement (PACE) Mentoring
PACE Mentoring connects students and job seekers with disability with mentors from leading Australian businesses. It gives individuals an opportunity to develop skills and confidence in a workplace setting. Individuals are paired with an experienced professional and meet with them six to eight times within a four-month period to discuss career goals and aspirations and get help to develop a plan for personal and professional development.

Randwick Waverley Community Transport – NDIS Supports
Randwick Waverley Community Transport assists transport disadvantaged individuals, families and community groups with economical travel in the South Eastern Sydney area. They are the eastern suburbs largest registered National Disability Insurance Scheme transport service. They can assist NDIS participants and their plan coordinators to understand, utilise and budget their Assistance to Access your Core and Non-Core NDIS Supports funding.

Support for Decision Making Training - NSW Public Guardian
The NSW Public Guardian continues to roll out Support for Decision Making (SDM) training across the state including a session in Sydney on 13 June. This free course is full day, interactive and includes lunch. Also available is a Train the Trainer component for the SDM course for those who want to champion it in their organisations or with stakeholders. This training is highly relevant to the whole disability sector and has been developed in the context of the NDIS.

NDIS Workshop: Self-Managing My Supports - Achieving more choice and control
This is a workshop for NDIS participants, family and carers. What does self-management of your NDIS funding mean? How can you be an effective self-manager? This St Vincent de Paul LAC workshop will give you the tools you need to take more control of your supports and your budgets. The workshops will be held Friday 1 June at 5.30pm in Waverley, Thursday 14 June at 5.30pm in Hurstville and Tuesday 26 June at 5.30pm in Cronulla.

Outing Disability Outing Disability is a photographic journey documenting the stories of 23 LGBTIQ people with disability through portrait and voice, produced in collaboration with internationally acclaimed photographer Belinda Mason. It tells their stories of coming out, exploring identity, discovering love
and finding pride. Having received funding to expand the current collection and hold an exhibition at the Chrissie Cotter Gallery they are now looking for new people who would like to be part of this project and tell their story. Click below if you are interested in being a part of this project.
Enhancing the Links Seminar, Sydney Enhancing the Links is a seminar for school staff and service providers working for people with disability. The seminar focuses on the transition of students with disability and the various post-school pathways. Across NSW and the ACT a number of Enhancing the Links events will be taking place and each will provide up-to-date presentations from key organisations, plenty of time to have your questions answered as well as excellent networking opportunities.

Pathways: Creating Opportunity for Aboriginal People with Disability Mirri Mirri, an Aboriginal owned organisation that specialises in delivering programs that educate mainstream organisations about Aboriginal people with disability, is presenting a FREE workshop in Sydney.
