Thanks to Alumnae, a Well-Deserved Hawaiian Vacation 

As coach, mentor, and friend, Sharon Spalding has forged lasting relationships with Mary Baldwin students across decades. When the athletics director revealed last year that she was facing a third cancer diagnosis, nearly 60 of those former students rallied to fund an all-expenses paid trip to Hawaii for Spalding and her husband, Phil. Read more >>

 

Art Professor Earns Prestigious Fellowship 

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has chosen Mary Baldwin Professor of Art Paul Ryan as one of its visual arts fellows for 2016–17. Ryan, a painter, is among 12 professional artists each awarded $8,000. Read more >>

 

Politically Active

Students representing the college for women and the Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences at Mary Baldwin have traveled to Richmond this semester to lobby the General Assembly for legislation aimed at student financial aid and health care.  See more >>

 

Senior to Join Peace Corps

Senior Moniefia Maitland from Pocahontas County, West Virginia, will join the Peace Corps in Colombia after she graduates in May. “My future plans include working in the economic development and foreign policy sectors,” said the political science major. “I’m really passionate about seeing change happen for the better in the developing world. Mary Baldwin has prepared me to face challenges. I’ve learned how to be flexible and competent, and be inspired to produce the best work that I possibly can. My experiences here have also helped to shape and strengthen my capabilities as a leader. I am so much more confident than I was before, and I take motivation from the people around me.”  

 
 
 

MBC Theatre Presents: Eurydice

The Mary Baldwin College theatre season returns this month with Eurydice — an adaptation of the story about fateful lovers from Greek mythology — written by Tony Award Nominee Sarah Ruhl. Director Doreen Bechtol, assistant professor of Shakespeare and Performance, brings language to life with her extensive background in movement training and dance. Eurydice  runs 7:30 p.m. February 18–20 and 2 p.m. February 21. Read more >>
